China’s state-run newspaper Global Times recently reportedly that China’s version of pickled cabbage “paocai” has earned the approval of the International Organization for Standarization (ISO), claiming that “the kimchi industry of China” has become the world standard. However, the Korean government stressed that the ISO approval has nothing to do with kimchi, as it was given to paocai, which is a completely different dish from kimchi. The ISO document also specifically states that the standard for paocai “does not apply to kimchi.” Watch the video to learn more.
