Back in the mid to late 1980's I worked in bicycle shops in NOLA. Aaron and his brother Charles were often customers of the shop from their old 'hood. Aaron was always a pleasure to deal with, and Charles, and his wife/girlfriend were also great people to deal with.
Listen to some Neville Brothers, and The Meters/The Funky Meters and find that Nawlins Sound. The Neville family is a big part of that sound and still are with the kids continuing the tradition. Though some of the "kids" are quite old, now.

I'm so glad you reacted to this... This song made it to #2 on the charts in 1969... I heard Aaron on a talk show saying that after that song came out things kind of slowed up for him and he had to find work to support himself... He found work as a longshoreman on the docks...He would be singing while he was working and the guys working with him told him, " Man, what are you doing here ?...you should be singing for a living with that voice "... He took their advice and the rest is history... You already know that he did beautiful duets with Linda Ronstadt but he had a few singles himself that he recorded... I'm just pulling from memory but I think 1 of the songs he had that I remember was on the wings of a I'm just pulling from memory but I think 1 of the songs he had that I remember was " On the Wings of a Nightingale "...
