Maybe you should explain the difference between "allocated VRAM" and "VRAM usage". 8 gig cards are still fine in most titles, especially at 1080p or even 1440p. I've had no issues so far with my 3070.

I have a 600$ gaming laptop but even with my specs:

Rtx 2050 (70w, 4GB GDDR6
I5-13420h
16gb DDR5

I still got 50 fps minimum at starfield high settings with frame gen, 70-100 fps on dcs high settings with quality dlss, and 60+ fps on battlefield 2042. I feel like people might just be overthinking on vram. I can also run unoptimized titles like into the radius 2 early access well.

I recommend people to look at benchmarks of games they are playing and are going to play before buying a new card if they're not sure. I also would always recommend getting the newest generation of card if you can, buying a 30 series Nvidia card now is just not a wise move seeing as they are approaching 4 years old and their Vram was a limitation when they launched. Nvidia's ideas weren't wrong, having less Vram and compressing more made sense for costs purposes, but that's all null and void when the game devs don't make use of it.

Most newer games want 12-16gb of my 4090 at 4k Ultra, 1080p uses about 1.5gb less, and you can turn the settings down, but most of the games will only go below 10 or 8gb once you're at 1080p medium or low which has been shown in many videos going back to 3080s and especially 3070s. What the 30 series cards are good for right now, and why you would want one is if you're only playing light games or older games from 2021 or earlier and not pushing the graphics sliders all the way without checking things first.

Icarus 1080p all settings maxed out no RT DLSS quality. Almost 11 Gb Vram used. (RTX 4080 super-i9 13900K- 32 Gb DDR 5 6000 Mhz).

there was no recommendations, that card over this card, best 1080 and 1440 and 4k card, only the amount of ram which I only noticed in 4k how much, 16 gb is the sweetspot and if money allows it 24gb vram for ultra details
