The ESP range of modules (8266/32) only supports 2.4GHz wifi, so this is a hardware limitation of the modules, rather than something Prusa could fix in software, sadly.

As far as I am aware all esp32 only support 2.5 wifi. Also, BTT sells a usb and SD module, that supports wifi transfers. It is supposed to only be for their printer, but I have it working on many of mine. It only supports transfers wireless though. You still need to go to the printer and press print.

Those supports look like vines picking the boat up out of the water 😂 I think they look awesome and I would end up leaving them on!

Still lots of issues with WiFi actually working on a Mini. Lots of people have been lucky enough to get it working, but there are plenty of people where stuff just doesn't work. Got mine sitting 6ft from the wifi router, with a 2.4GHz network specifically for the Mini and no matter what I do, it won't connect. So far have thrown 5 different ESP modules at it that according to the community sourced spreadsheet should be compatible, but it still just won't connect. Even todays 4.4.1-RC1 release fails to connect.

I just did this as well, with the same ESP8266 board. I can't remember where I read it, but the board is documented to only work on 2.4GHz.

Yup 8 dollars vs the 70+ for a Octopi install... but those hoops... my time is money also... and my other printers... and that interface... It's a good step though, and you're right, it is 2022 - WiFi should be the norm, and a whole lot easier to use, like a first install wizard that get you over the hoops for the first time you get into it... ah well, I'm lucky enough to have a few RAspberry Pis lying around so I'm not moving off Octoprint for a while yet.

I have a love hate relationship with my mini. I find to get any good bed adhesion I always have to at 70 or 75 C for bed temp. Otherwise no good prints can be had. My z adjust is at like 1.950

i be excited to see this with a SLA 3D printer but for a FDM.. this would be very epic to use.. you can set up a print from a friends place or from the office and it can get to work and could be done by the time you get home.. this be great feature to use for the never at home kind of person

Holy crap! That's amazing! For under 10 bucks it modifies my printer in such great ways.

esp8266 use wifi via uart. that's why it is slow. good enough for transfer commands but bad for files.

I wish this worked for the MK3s, but alas octopi to the rescue… if you can find a pi!

I ended up hard wiring mine vie ethernet but it's super nice to finally be able to remote print without needing OctoPrint or similar! Also, for that dual color purple benchy, what specific PLA was that? Ever since Polyalchemy Elixor stopped making their silk PLA I have had a heck of a time finding a good one. I have tried Matter Hacker, Overture and Polymaker and I can not get a single good print from them without crazy layer lines using their silks.

Thanks, keep up the awesome work!

For everyone wondering why it's so slow. it's not the 2.4Ghz WiFi.... The GCode files are typically small enough for 2.4Ghz to handle with no issue. Plus you're uploading over LAN and not WAN. It's because it's writing the file to the SD/TF Card. OctoPrint does the same thing. Write to the RasPi and it's quick. Write to the SDCard and it takes forever....

Does anyone know what filament that Benchy is at 4:13?

Careful wirh 4.4.0, I found a bug and reported it on the GitHub. For some reason the mesh bed leveling has intermittent drops when returning the results. I use Octoprint and noticed when the results should report back on the terminal, a lot of the time it will be missing values, an entire line (0, 1, 2 or 3) or there are missing values per line or just plain wrong values. I duplicated this bug with multiple PINDa probes and multiple Buddy boards. If you have issues with your first layer on 4.4.0, that’s probably why. I rolled my firmware back to the latest stable version.

Wonder if the chip you buy has anything to do with the 2g / 5g ability? Are there better chips that allow 5g maybe? I don’t myself it’s just a thought while watching… I’ll try it with this example first though, seems easy enough, great tutorial, thanks. 👍🏼

i've been using a "flashair" SD card in an old DaVinci for a while now... I'm surprised more people don't.

Only took them three years to finally add wifi support.

Pretty sure we’ll never see that power loss recovery they promised though.
