i have auditory processing disorder and i have a very hard time in loud backgrounds and places. my whole life i thought everyone felt like this but it turns out i was wrong. i got some earplugs made specifically for people with apd, and they are arriving today in the mail. i hope they work well 🤞

Good explanation! I always described it as auditory dyslexia before I knew what APD was. Im currently in the process of being tested for APD now. My mum also has diagnosed APD (lots of cases of genetics suggested with cases).

Hey question;

As a teenager back around the time 2002 -04 I was struggling immensely in school with this very thing. I was tested and I was determined that it was dsylesxia and processing input was slower ( I forget the correct language that was used) . I never felt like reading was as big of an issue - but speech was. Unfortunately I never received therapy for it - as it was a result of being put on academic probation & risked losing scholarships.

So with all that, I am curious is APD was really tested or diagnosed during that time or was it lumped in with dsylexia?

I ask as I am trying to understand my history and now my son, who is 7 & clearly having issues with processing.

In regards to my son It takes him 7-10 times for him to process instruction, and when he does start on a task it is something different than what was asked.., he jumps up to follow instruction- but often time does the wrong thing. It Breaks my heart. ..
As he had teachers that didn’t understand and punished him / took him away from recess / other fun activities due to this. but and it is not a behavioral issue- but he is seemingly aloof.

I want to get him tested officially as we are moving to a new state and fear the new school will not be understanding & want to lessen his hardship. How long does it take
To be diagnosed & is it something that is recognized / has a somewhat defined therapy plan?

Thank you kindly

I knew it! lol! I knew it was similar to APD. I struggled with math all my life I can't even get through algebra even though I like it lol! I can't remember all the steps but a lot of people have a hard time with math even if they don't have a disability.

So could dyslexia be described as a presentation of auditory processing disorder or perhaps both could be said to be on a spectrum of the same condition?
