What's going on Initiate, Bird here and in this video we are going over one of the best guys in all of Elden Ring, War Counselor Iji.

A good-natured troll who once served the Carian Royal Family as a blacksmith. Currently, Iji serves Ranni, the Carian princess, as her war counsellor, while still plying his trade as a blacksmith outside the Kingsrealm Ruins, near the Caria Manor.

Iji has known Ranni and Blaidd since they were children, and they would let him join in when they played. Along with Blaidd, he swore allegiance to Ranni when she renounced her flesh and chose the dark path of the Empyrean. Iji is also shown to care for Blaidd, however he also harbours some reservations. Fearing that, as her sworn shadow, Blaidd will go mad and become a curse for Ranni for resisting the Two Fingers, Iji imprisons Blaidd in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

Iji became acquainted with Jerren when he was a guest of the Carians. Jerren recalls that the weapons Iji smithed were blunt, yet did not decay when faced with Scarlet Rot. Jerren may also offer a vital clue regarding Ranni's fate, which helps Iji to come to the realisation that General Radahn must be killed in order to release the stars and Ranni's own fate.
Later, after Blaidd breaks free of his imprisonment and gives his life in defence of Ranni, Iji admits that he misjudged Blaidd's loyalty, and senses that he will soon join Blaidd in death. Later, he can be found dead, his body ablaze with black flame, with the corpses of Black Knife Assassins nearby.

But the black knives use red flames.. the ones engulfing Iji were black… the black flames were used by the god skins. There was a god skin noble on the way to Ranni’s tower…

I've always wonder why would the black knifes come to kill ranni's people when they followed her plan in that terrible night. It is because the ones who helped her were traitors? Did they betrayed the black knifes after that night? Did the knifes thought that were acting under marika's order?
