I make coffee every morning with this setup and similar recipe.
It quickly becomes effortless once in your routine.
I look forward to that coffee every day.

👍🏻 For me, the balance between a good cup of coffee and minimum fuss/cost is a French press. I have marked a 1L press to show water levels for one and two of my favourite cups (mugs) of coffee, and worked out that i need at least 4 heaps of my favourite spoons per cup of coffee.
So a little bit of "once-off" prep and measurements, but now the process is simple, streamlined, and deeply satisfying. Plus cleanup is a breeze.

yo I’ve got 7 years experience making pourovers at home. That hand grinder looks an awful lot like a timemore grinder and if that’s the case that’s a great first step. Having a high quality hand grinder is the most important tool on bar.

As for James hoffmans recipe it’s not bad but I don’t think it’s the best. The first step of making coffee is the bloom - I would say next time you grind 15g of coffee make your bloom go to 45g. At 45s pour 100g and then at 1:30 pour another 100g, total weight around 240g coffee. Total brew time doesn’t matter as much as coffee ppl actually seem to think it does. I’ve had good cups that brew in 2 mins and brews that took 8

Also this “medium fine” reccomendation is not great imo. When I was new to pourovers it just led me to grinding way coarser then necessary. Based off of what I saw in the vid you can go a lot finer. The rule of thumb is keep grinding finer until it tastes bitter. From there go a few steps coarser and adjust to taste from there.

An areopress is a fun addition. Although cold brew can be made with bare minimum supplies. A basic jar with a lid and a cloth bag.

I’d absolutely recommend an Aeropress, they’re really easy to use and you can make all sorts of coffee with one! James Hoffman has really good recipes for it too, I love his ultimate Aeropress and Aeropresso ones.

Ahhh yay welcome to the weird coffee person cult!!! Korea has so many wonderful roasters to explore! If you are in Seoul I'd recommend Center Coffee and Felt Coffee, but Momos Coffee Roasters in Busan may be a bit closer to home👍👍

There are tons of simple and great v60 recipes out there. As a coffee director, when im trying new coffees or just want to enjoy one quick but still am able to extract the complexities, I use the tetsu kasuya method "40/60" method. The ratios CAN be changed if you want, but at a glance. You take 20g of a medium to coarse grind, do a 30-45 second bloom. And pour in pulses of 60g until you reach the target weight of 300g water, letting it drain between pulses. Super mindless but such good coffee.

the Baratza Encore grinder is what my family went with. it's a lot easier to switch between grind sizes on a precision electric grinder when someone might make a cup of coffee with a moka pot, French press, pour over, or drip. also don't have to worry about issues hand grinding if you're injured or sore 😆

I swear by the aeropress for everyday, easy coffee making. Its easy to clean and makes consistently good coffee in a minute or less(I have been a barista for 15 years).

For filter roasted coffee:
-18-20g coffee
-fill to just under the "4" mark, wait 10 second.
-Stir 10 times, wait 30 seconds
-Stir 10 more times, then press

For Espresso roasted coffee:
20-22 g
-pour til halfway between 1 and 2 mark
-stir for 30 seconds then press
-top up with hot water for an americano, add milk if you like, or drink it short like an espresso

Clever dripper bro, you get the benefit of paper filtered (no sludge like french press) whilst not having to worry about technique so much like a v60. James is also a big advocate of the clever dripper

You have a really good setup right now.
They're is no real ways to improve your curent setup in terms of taste for v60 unless you change your grinder.
You can upgrade your coffee game by buying other brewers like the clever dripper or by trying new v60 recipe.
You can also buy a espresso machine like a breville bambino or a more manuel one like the flair for minimal cost. But you will have to buy a new grinder if you go that route imo.
You'll see coffee is a really fun niche! Don't hesitate if you have questions!

Yes! Seeing someone discover this and realise how good it is, is so dope.

I think now the only thing you can do is experiment with Coffees and see what you like.
Also keep an eye on brew temp.

Electric grinders and espresso machines if your wanting to make it a new hobby but otherwise, you’re set

You could look into Moka pots. James Hoffman has a method for that also and i love the coffee I get from mine

Now that you have a good grinder there's not really "upgrades" to be had, just different options. I use an Aeropress which is nice because it's versatile. It can make good coffee with a simpler process.

There are a ton of other recipe and brewing method to make it easier in the. Now while I have high tolerance for finicking in the morning (for the past 2 years I use flair for my morning coffee, go figure). I think You should get a hario switch, you can just bloom the coffee once, and pour the remaining water and push the flap open at a certain time, no extra pour just 2 pours. Or get an April brewer, their recipe is only 2 pours, and yield a nicely balanced cup.

Hi! Great upgrade. If this technique is too much for you, you can try Lance Hedrick’s any pour over recipe. It only consists of the bloom and adding the rest of the water (up to 250g), so much easier than James’s recipe.

A little trick if I might add, pour a bit of hot water on the filter prior to putting the beans in then dispose of the water and proceed the same way you did. Some coffee filters can have a taste that carries over to the coffee. Other than that I think you have everything. People over complicate coffee. Just get a good whole bean you like and continue doing the method you just displayed here. You really can’t get a cleaner tasting cup of coffee any other way. Yea, it’s a bit much but once you practice for a while it’ll be second nature and you’ll be able to do it in the morning while you prepare your breakfast.

Edit: apparently he already did this and I missed it.

Upgrade the volume of ground coffee per cup. Make your own blends of ground coffee per cup. 10g, grind / 10g of other, grind. Blend.

If you want a more foolproof way of making coffee, get yourself a gabi master A. You don't need a fancy goose neck kettle, a regular one will do. Super simple and yet amazing.

Something that will make the process easier is a scale with a timer.
