Three Queensland mayors are campaigning for Northern Territory-style booze bans to curb a rise in alcohol-fuelled crimes in their regions. Mayors from Cairns, Townsville and Mt Isa speak to Today, saying they’ve “had enough” and written to the state government for the restrictions to be brought in. Queensland Police Union President Ian Leavers believes it is worthy for consideration, with police set to recruit thousands of new officers from across the country in order to help tackle the growing youth crime crisis.
