With MUSE 3 would it be possible to have real time detection of REM sleep to explore lucid dreaming induction protocols ? And a python SDK or is it still closed to developpers ?

I have the Muse 1, and I’m extremely disappointed with this company. They crowdfunded the project as open-source but closed everything after raising money. Not only did they make their software proprietary, but they also blocked access to developer tools, i had to pirate everything. I will never purchase anything from them again.

Color me impressed. The BT time synchronization problem is something that top academic labs struggle with for wireless animal electophysiology. Very happy to see integration of fNIRS. I had the muse headband, non S version, awhile back and ultimately returned it due to its inability to collect data consistently or in non sitting positions. I should have purchased the S, which seems to me the superior form factor. Im glad to see them innovating on this side of the business.

Questions that were not answered is whether or not fNIRS, ERP, SpO2 data etc will be available to third party apps like mindmonitor. Given the BT timing synchronization issue, it seems that there may be postprocessing alignment between phone, device, and cloud. Unclear if third party will be able to handle that.

Considering getting one, does anyone know the answers of below?

I'm guessing from 5:24 that the new headband supports mind monitor app and can see brainwaves in real time? Is it able to also stream fNIRS data as well?
Also am I able to export all the data from muse app that's been collected, and do they have an open SDK where I can use the device and my brain data to develop my own scripts/apps without needing any approval/application?

I only wish this interview was longer, and I am hopeful you can do an update interview quarterly or semiannually. It would also be great if muse gave us a timeline of how their hardware and software has been updated, and resultant useful skills and data (and why this new data has proven helpful), as well as new apps that make use of these new hardware and software abilities and benefits to users. Obviously this would also be a good marketing tool for muse.

What do you think, which headband should I choose for the Muse 3, considering both the color and the material it’s made of? Which one do you think will be more durable and pleasant: carbon 73.1% polyester or opal 79.7% cotton?

Looks cool! She didn't talk about mindfulness in this. Did she mention anything to you about improvements in tracking mind wandering or combining eeg and fnirs for meditation tracking? I used to have a muse 2 but got rid of it because it was telling me i was focused when my mind was wandering. I even tried meditating during calibration but no luck.

*Interesting video and product. Thanks Dr Cody!
(I have the Muse 2)
A comparison with other bands with FNIRS would be interesting.
- Mendi, The Mendi Headset,
- Thinkie, (NeU Ex Brain XB-01), Among other devices with Fnirs, NIRS, and/or EEG. Thanks.

do you think muse will offer a good price to trade up from the existing s model to the new one? i have only had this one for a few months and they have fixed some of the weak points with this new model

I love my Muse S devices. I just wish that the headband sensors didn’t wear out so quickly.

THANKS FOR ELIMINATING THAT HEADLIGHT FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION!

I have a Muse 2 which I bought nearly 10 years ago, I upgraded to the muse S and hated it, for the simple fact that the sensors would wear out so quickly, and replacement was prohibitively expensive, so I just used my muse 2 which works well.

I just sold the S eBay and decided to get this Athena because it said the headband was more durable. I pray it’s not the same rubbish as last time.

So reading between the lines there's a fair bit of analysis (like ERPs) that isn't yet available. When will it be as I'm not keen on buying promises....

Thanks, Cody. This is what I've been waiting for. Muse S Athena was announced without getting actually announced. There's no news about it on the internet. No promo video on YouTube. I just saw a shorts clip from Shervin shares, that's all. Now I'm going to ask you for a 30% discount code. There was a 50% price increase on the new band. I think this band is practically making Mendi obsolete. Will we see a comparison of Frenz, Waverox, Brainbit Mindo and Muse S Athena on this channel ? Would also like to see EEG headphone comparison, Waverox and Brainbit. I think Neurable doesn't fall into the same category.

Thank you for these videos, I am debating getting the Muse 3 or Mendi for my son.

Cody, the link is not working, only showing the discount for Europe only. How do I get the US discount?

Fantastic... Can you download the EEG - fNIRS data, yet? If so, with what tool?
