Here's the thing, Russia literally lies about everything. They have always leaned on heavy bluffing opposed to actual ability. The U.S. spends vast sums of money on weapons testing and research. The U.S. also invests heavily in upgrading existing weapons. Russia has never invested heavy into research and development. Russia has always had subpar weapons, but a lot of them. It's more over of better. Just like in Ukraine, their doctrine has always been overwhelming the enemy with sheer numbers. You don't need top-tier weapons or strategy in that case.

Ukraine is a sovereign nation and not part of Russia, so if invited NATO troops can enter Ukraine. Things go both ways. Of course, Russia was not invited into Ukraine but invaded it.
