Dale: casual racism

Cotton: professional racism

Kahn is both impressed by cotton, and possibly shook knowing he learned the difference so he wouldn't stack the wrong bodies.

This is easily my favorite part of the entire show.

The fact only Cotton Hill could tell he was from Laos is like 5 jokes rolled into one.

Kahn and Cotton had 2 foes in common: the Japanese and Hank

Kahn's look when Cotton immediately figured out his nationality.

Kahns reaction is priceless he's all like "I don't know whether to be offended or impressed" 🤣

Mr Khans look is like "I've been seen and understood for the first time but not respected"

What’s even funnier about this is that Kahn and Cotton share the same voice actor.

I love how cotton just leaves with the absolutely certainty that he is right, which he was.

fun fact: the US Army trained their soldiers how to distinguish between the various Asian ethnicities in the Pacific Theater (there are even some somewhat racist pamphlets you can find online that were given to the soldiers), so Cotton was actually trained to identify who is and isn't Laotian

Goes from saying something incredibly racist to Khan to being the only one who got his ethnicity right on the first go

Cotton killed enough Japanese to know the difference.

People not knowing what a Laotian is, was Khan’s biggest flex. All gone in a second of meeting Cotton Hill.

My Uncle was a veteran in Vietnam. I remember him going to my high school graduation cookout. One of my classmates said "Homar, becareful. Johnny is Vietnamese." My uncle looked at the kid and back at my classmate and said "you stupid bastard, he's American with Chinese Japanese heritage."

Cotton being slightly offended that the boys think Kahn is japanese is giving me life right now

Pair this with the classic line from Hank, "So, are you Chinese or Japanese?" and see the drastic differences between their life experiences

Apparently King of the Hill is pretty popular in Japan, enough so that it can be compared to the popularity of anime in America. I’ve been told that this is mainly due to the show’s slice of life nature, and it’s extremely honest depiction of American life.

I bring this up, because I genuinely wonder how the average Japanese viewer would have reacted to jokes like this.

This is King of the Hill humor perfectly summed up in one joke.

Kahn can't tell whether to feel insulted or glad that Cotton actually had some familiarity with Laotian people

The fact that Cotton knows his Race impressed Kahn where he just stayed silent and didn't say "Stupid Redneck Hillbilly"
