She is not your regular mother in law!

“When I got married in December 2023, I was confused…confused because I was feeling two different emotions. One, I was happy because I’d just gotten married, and second, I was nervous because I kept thinking, ‘How will I adjust in a new family?’ But little did I know that waiting for me on the other side of the door was the coolest mother in law ever!
You see, my husband Shalak and I met in 2019 over Instagram & instantly hit it off. We had the best of conversations, the heartiest of laughs & we both had big dreams. But since the beginning I thought that this wasn’t going anywhere since I am Sindhi and Shalak a Christian. And that was what happened when I told my family – it was chaotic. But while a lot of people were against it, my family stood like a rock supporting me through all this.
Also, when he told me that his father said, ‘Agar tujhe yeh ladki pasand hai, toh bas le aa use ghar,’ I knew we had to find our way through. When my family saw that we weren’t going to give up on each other, they agreed.
We got married in December 2023, and started our lives together. Initially I thought that our cultural differences would come in our way, but my mother-in-law made everything easy for me. She cooked on days that I didn’t feel like, she sat next to me when I was missing home and comforted me with her champis. She became my chai partner, my gossip buddy and my go to person.
She’s just an enthu cutlet. I remember one day when we were in the kitchen, I randomly filmed us dancing and posted it on Instagram. I had never posted a funny video of us together before this. And guess what? The video went viral! People messaged me saying, ‘Your mother in law is the cutest.’
We then decided to post more videos – of us having fun, of our daily conversations and it just started to take off. Sometimes I wonder how I went from a daughter-in-law to a friend. You know, I had always heard from people, ‘Be careful of your mother in law,’ ‘You can never be friends.’ But I know that is not true. Because friendship comes in all forms – you just need to learn how to embrace it!”
