Dubai is great for businesses but not to be an employee, salaries are bad in general and living and working in summer is a nightmare. On the other hand it’s great for business owner that can leave the county in summer and enjoy life in another country and pay no taxes with your gains. Safety is also great.

Dubai reminds me of Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles - it’s tacky rich. It attracts a certain type of person that loves “flexing”. You generally don’t go there to be low key. You go there to make money and have it be known.

1. People like you only if you have something to give them.

3. Narcissistic and psychopathic people are always on the hunt for gullible, damaged and hopeless people.

Well said, Rafael. You said it like it is. I agree with you 100 percent. If anyone thinks Dubai is a soulless place, the remedy is simple: don't go there. Dubai doesn't have to justify anything to anybody. It is a place where wealth is created. If some things are not right, so what? Who is perfect?

Four questions:

Compared to Western democracies how free is Dubai? Can you openly criticize the government on social media?
If you are not Muslim will it impair your ability to get work and form business relationships?
If there are no taxes how is public infrastructure maintained?
Compared to LA and NY, is the overall cost of living higher or lower?

Funny thing, I remember it took me exactly 1 hour to get a SIM card in Dubai at the airport. The guy was extremely slow. I've never seen that in any other country in the world.

But I'm nitpicking here. Agreed with efficiency otherwise.

For me, the only true benefit of Dubai is the zero tax. No nature, endless roads and concrete and the air hotter than a sauna are a heavy negative.

Once you made it and you no longer need to work, there is no real benefit of being there other than no tax.

Only haters, losers and negative people criticize Dubai bitterly. It is better for them not to expose the psychological deficiency compounds they suffer from. Dubai is always developing and progressing, and their poisoned criticism will never harm it

It's an awesome city where anything is possible. It's what New York should have been if it didn't have 50% taxes. It does have a history, you just have to dig for it (no pun intended). It's at the cross roads of the world. Should be a great place to build manufacturing in future.

Dubai is a "NEW" city/Emirate in the UAE. So many people do NOT understand this, so many think Dubai is a country. Even if it is, it is NEW and yes, 50 years is NOT a lot of history. The UAE has a lot more places to visit, but Dubai is commercially popular because they have done so purposely for it to be the TOURISM ATTRACTION AREA of the UAE. This is why it's population is about 70-80% TOURISTS! YES, Dubai was "created" to be exactly what it is now, an attraction FOR THE FUTURE. YES it is/was a dessert and they are doing what they can to build on it for it to be attractive to TOURISM.
