This is for a 4.3. you should put that in the title. It'd be helpful for searches.

for anyone curious on the 2.2 base there's not a lot of videos showing what to do but it's not extremely difficult at all. no, you don't have to take it to a shop if you're patient, just have to remove tranny support bracket that's in the way and get a long extension to take the wires off. took me a little under an hour and a half but it's not that serious. don't have to drop exhaust or anything like that just gotta play tetris for a few minutes. hope this helps

Would be awesome if you would identify what size bolts are during removal

13 m for big stud 8 mil for small stud, starter bolts are 13 mil as well, just took one out of a 2005 Blazer

Thanks for the Video. 1A has the best "How To" videos. I did have 2 differences when I replaced the starter on my 2002 S10 pickup. The opening behind the wheel was about half the size of the one in this video. To remove the wires I had to drop the starter to get to them. The mounting bolts on my starter were different too. One was above the control arm and was a pain to remove. I had to pull the "easy one to get to" first before I could move the starter and let the one above the control arm drop. Very tight quarters but I was able to replace the starter.

Quick, professional job; and great, professional video--no stumbling around or chit-chat. BUT: this does appear to be a 4.3L V-6 engine (starter on right side of vehicle); on the 2.2L I4, starter is on left side, and exhaust pipe is a significant problem in accessing the starter. Would appreciate a video about that as well (if you haven't done one yet). Thanks!

For future vids maybe state engine size and required socket sizes? Thanks

For those asking about sizes I have a 97 4.3, the battery is an 8, the 2 bolts for the starter underneath are 14, little connector nut is an 8 as well and the bigger connector nut is 14

You had it easy..my header comes down more than tht. I had no room to turn the ratchet for it to click to keep going. I had to take it off each time it turned to make it click, and didn't have to turn it 109 different ways to get it out

I disconnected my 2003 Chevy S10 Starter, but I can't remove it, there just isn't enough room; I even turned it around, turned it over, it's lacking 1/4 inch to be able to clear it over the I beam that supports the wheel. I wish it was as easy as you are showing on the video...but it's not!

Getting ready to do this job on my ZR2 and where I'm so little to disconnect the wires I didn't even have to remove the tire I was able to just get my arm back there and remove them. Also didn't have to raise or jack the truck up I was just able to lay down an old board I keep around and slide under there. There's advantages to being a woman that can do your own mechanic work. After all my late father who was a US Army mechanic in the 1960s wouldn't let me get my license until I proved I know how to fix issues that can arise. I'd have my certification today if not for the fact the rural southwest VA high school I graduated from in 1998 refused to allow me to take automotive repair, both years I signed up for it they just stuck me in Home Economics which I didn't need because I already knew how to cook, clean and sew. I also already knew how to work on vehicles from my dad and at almost 44 have never taken a single vehicle I've ever owned to the garage for anything and always did the work myself. Still it would have been nice if high school back then wasn't so sexist and would have let me gotten my certificate. If that had happened to me in modern times I'd have had a lawsuit for discrimination.

I think I used 1/2" and 5/16" on the terminals and a 14mm for the mounting bolts

This appears to be the ZR2 version of the Blazer. That particular vehicle has a factory installed body lift. The non-ZR2 versions are very different. There is not enough room to get in to access the wire connections. The exhaust manifold is about 2 1/2 inches from the frame and you'd have to get in between them which is not possible. Are the starter wires long enough that you can unhook them once the 2 long bolts are out?

don't have that much room in my 1994 Chevy S10 4.3. I wish I did.

much for me doing this myself. As soon as he said "lift the vehicle" I knew I was calling a mechanic.

I dont take off the tire i drop the starter then hold it or tie it with a wire. Then disconnect the wires saves alot of time. If you take some of the mount brackets off the harness it gives you lots of play to do this

I appreciate your videos, I have saved lots of money by doing it by myself, thanks to this videos . But most important how lot of mechanics are not honest. I have witnessed how woman get over charged for simple work on their cars. This one Asian mechanic was charging me $350 to replace one of the oxigen sensors 😮 and wanted me to leave my truck over the weekend. I said wtf…. I guess he wanted to break stuff in my truck to try to tell me it had to be replaced .
