You'll never guess how they achieved the textured concrete at the Barbican.

The Barbican Centre and Barbican Estate is a massive post war brutalist complex of buildings, built on the site of 40 acres of housing bombed during WW2. It's a vast maze and much of the concrete is textured. It is rough to the touch. It's everywhere and the bit that blows my mind is that the effect was achieved by chipping away by hand. It took them years.
