Its on their own literature that you're not obliged to have one, just say no thank you if you do not require one. If you feel you are being unfairly pressed to change your mind just let them know you feel a little intimidated or bullied if you feel that way, they will completely understand because they will be recording your call for their own safety, just be sure to make a note of the date and time you call. Do the SMART thing first and search "citizens advice smart meters" and remember being polite and informed are the best tools in you box. xx

We have some issues with the handbook which raises some queries. One example is the screen which is named the 'Home Screen' which is actually NOT the home screen as the device defaults to yet another screen which is NOT shown in the handbook. This screen shows the total combined cost of Gas and Electricity used TODAY as a running total in £.  Problem  is that the device does not consistently do this, sometime it does, sometimes it does not. We think the heading BUDGET on many pages is over used and confusing.On Sunday 22/12/19 the device lost contact with the smart meter for gas for about 2 hours and a red triangle message warning was displayed and the readings eventually returned.The appropriate message was displayed with the instruction that if the red triangle persisted we should contact BG. The red triangle is still displayed 24 hrs. later but there are no further messages and as our experience of being able to talk to someone during the installation of the meter has been very poor we will see how long it takes this time.

top tip, add your own 3 x AA battery holder, and a switch to turn it on/off. thank me later. there is no on/off switch it will just run your batteries down in less than a day. mine runs for months now, and just turn it on and off when i need to better.

Thanks very useful. My meter has stopped showing Elec usage. Still shows Gas usage. Cannot find how to fix it?

I have had a british gas smart meter for just under one year, biggest mistake of my life. Im shocked at how much consumption Im using and yet nothing has changed. I leave nothing on overnight except fridge freezer, I live in a small flat and yet before 8 o clock in the morning I have spent over £1 before I get out of bed. This never happened before I had a smart meter. I live alone and am a pensioner. I have had several conversations with British Gas and they say my spend I OK and yet when you go on to check with other similar properties my spend is above average. This meter is preset to consume more. Don't have one

Make sure to check the monthly payment's for both gas and electricity. the crafty bugger tried to add an extra £10 to my monthly payments. this is after installation.

Had metre off british gas for long time and its not picking up data properly keeps telling me there is a problem get in touch with bg 3times i have been telling them to sort it out yet did not turn up for appointment to take alook then i get a tex to say no one available what to do,

The back light does not come on, you have to press gas button on the bottom to come on, but goes off after 1 minute, directions please how to keep back light on during the day.
