The Gas Technician, Alyssa, came into my home to fix my fireplace said she could read novels at the university level at home but she was making good money and had paid off her student loans in 2 years and liked what she was doing.

Learning a trade is actually a very good idea! My plumber reminded me of that after she’d (yep, read that right she) to fix something in my kitchen. She’s at my house for less than 2hrs, cost $238. Don’t y’all frown on blue collar professions. I respect them all!

As a former trade worker, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back. I’m glad I moved onto greater job opportunities.

I think college isn't worth it if you aren't going for STEM related degrees. I went into automotive trade school out of high school. I worked 10 years and worked my way to be the top technician at my dealership. I quit and went back for an engineering degree. I made decent money (after 9 years) but it took forever to get there. I got almost no respect being a technician, couldn't find a job that paid well outside of my dealer etc. My first internship as an engineer paid more than what I made in my 9th year as a technician. That being said I am sure others have different experiences. I know people who are union iron workers who get paid really well and enjoy their job. Biggest concern working a trade is wear and tear on the body. Almost everyone that I know that has been in the trades for 20+ years needed some sort of major surgery (Spine, knee, hip etc) due to injury at work or from wear and tear.

If I could go back to the time after my high school graduation, I probably would've made the decision to pursue a trade while completing community college. I'd save enough money to pay for my tuition after factoring in financial aid and an apartment (and other expenses). Then I'd transfer to university to complete my degree in something that would be helpful if I decided to open a small business one day, like a bachelors in computer information systems. While doing that, I'd do trade work on the weekends and some weekdays so I could graduate debt-free.

as a high school student college is a waste of time and overpriced I don't wanna take extra stuff just what I wanna do that's what got me interested in a trade school you can do 1 program and significantly cheaper or even free compared to college

can anyone name a single character on a TV show, who dropped out college/not went to college, and not branded as a fool? I've noticed that anyone who decides to get a real job instead of the glorified college, are shown in a bad light.
(boy meets world, and young Sheldon?)

So let me ask, do YOU have a college degree?

Do you think it’s also because of the “nonessential” workers having money issues when the pandemic first started? 🧐
