I married my high school boyfriend. I went to college and he went straight to work. We’ve now been together 25 years; married 19. Do not let some random chick on the internet talk you into throwing relationships away for no good reason. People aren’t disposable. If it’s time to end things anyway that’s one thing, but this advice is frankly crap.

A lot of this is awful advice. You don’t necessarily get a choice in your class schedule, especially freshman year. In the working world you don’t just “get fridays off”. Taking even just one class on a Friday keeps you busy and focused on school. And if you’re so quick to dump your boyfriend because of a location change, you’re easily the problem and I hope he finds someone worth his time.

Nah on the boyfriend. I started dating my boyfriend at 13, we weren’t going to end a 5 year relationship just because I was starting college and he was going into the military. We’ve now been together for 7 years and are engaged, don’t ruin a good relationship for no reason. Love isn’t disposable.

Pro tip, don’t listen to this girl. If you have a strong relationship in high school don’t break it just because of university, you need an actual reason why the relationship isn’t working to justify breaking up. Almost all of the strongest marriages are between people who started dating young. Theres been tons of study’s done that say that as the amount of relationships someone has increase, male or female, the less likely it is that when they marry someone the marriage will last. The likelihood of being happy during that marriage also decreases every time the amount of previous partners rises. My parents started dating at 15 and have been married happily for 34 years. My uncle started dating his wife at 17 and has been married for 40 years. I may agree to the statement ‘don’t compromise your dreams or where you want to go to school just to stay with a high school boyfriend, and don’t try long distance since it will never work in university’ but her take is stupid.
Also, what degrees can you take where you have a small enough course load and enough freedom to not take Fridays classes? Anything to do with science or engineering makes you take 5-7 classes a semester with at least three labs a semester and buisness schools usually have you taking the same, except their labs are presentations or case studies. That leaves art’s degrees, which aren’t worth taking in the first place. I’m in engineering, but the arts options I’ve had to take have all been so unbelievably easy that I didn’t have to study, outside of homework assignments, even once, and yet the lowest grade I got in any of the 5 classes I took was 96. Anything that easy isn’t worth 20 grand a year to be learning.

not her saying that your shouldn’t date your bf from high school in college like bffr a lot of people end up marrying their high school sweetheart plus imagine saying to your partner “sorry i have to break up with you cuz im going to college” like what that’s so stupid. don’t break up with someone just because you’re going to college if you have a healthy and nontoxic relationship. plus please don’t drink in college and don’t drink period but especially in college. college is a place to learn not to mess around and party, you’ll have time for that afterwards.

Ask for help. How is this not on there? If youre struggling with something and you have an exam soon, don't assume it won't be on the test because IT ALWAYS IS! Ask your professors, ask the people around you, get a group together. It's not high school where you can just not study and still get a good score. If you don't study for a college exam, you're fucked. So throw away your pride for like an hour and ask for help.

Usually you should bring your high school bf to college but in some scenarios, you can. My bestfriends parents fell in love at 15 and went to college together! ❤

Don’t let your high school boyfriend change the course of your life. However, if things are good, I see nothing wrong with trying long distance. If it works it works, just make sure you two aren’t making too many sacrifices that’ll alter your futures (unless you want to)

you're promoting drinking like it's something mandatory. Harlot.

I’m gonna be honest Incoming freshman usually don’t have that much control over their classes. It’s not always as simple as just “not taking” a Friday class

Avoid getting a job your first year. You want to be a student full time to make sure you get as many credits as possible and so you can enjoy college life. Apply to scholarships and get a meal plan to support your academics. If you absolutely need to work contact your school about how you can make sure you get all your credits.
