That's a great idea to split the 2x6, not only you save money but also improves on aesthetics

Great tutorial. The one I plan to build is not quite that elaborate. But the same principles apply.

I'll be doing a similar project in a few short weeks in our new home. One observation - if you use the correct length screws fastened into the studs and ceiling joists that is more than adequate. I once had a professional carpenter tell me one # 8 wood screw will hold well over 500 lbs if it is sunk into the stud to the proper depth.

Thank you! Best DIY video I've come across. I feel like I can actually do this as a starter project to boost my lack of confidence. Thank you very very much. 5:27

Tim, you are a great carpenter. I love your videos.

Why did you chose to secure to drywall using toggle bolts instead of securing through the drywall to the studs?

This was a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I finished half of the overhead storage yesterday. It Was 10' long and I was working by myself on two ladders in a 15' high garage so it took much longer than I was hoping to complete.

Love it. Thank you for the great video. This is something what I was looking for.

Great job but one question: On the 3rd shelf, why wouldn't you just attach the ledger boards straight into the vertical supports? That little janky support is superfluous and ugly.

Thunbs up for the Funko's in the garage!

If you don't have a pocket hole jig, assemble the under board supports and bottom ledger board on the ground, then mount it all at once. In a lot of ways this is easier.

Also if you don't want to use toggle bolts, you can probably use 2x4 ledger boards and some lag bolts for extra strength.

Are your ceiling beams real 2x10/2x12s or are they engineered beams. I have engineered beams and I am wondering how well this would work in my garage

Great video...good job. I would have used the money saved to purchase paint and some good lighting...you'll wished you did in the long run, also you can get some fabric cutt to size at any wal mart with some cheap curtain rods...hang those for concealment. Just dome suggestions. Great job!
