The more great books one has read, the more one realizes when a book is NOT great. The more plots or instructions one's followed, the more one sees that they're being taken in that same direction again. Time to put that book down. This also applies to music, movies, and acquaintances.

How does he know if there’s nothing good in the rest of the book? Granted that certain books are not worth finishing, I felt that way a third of the way into What Happened by Hillary Clinton, but presuming that the rest of the book is merely antidotal is not a good policy.

i read The Berenstein Bears and The Spooky Old Tree at least 300 times a year. no other book needed.

He's not lying about the 8 page premise in a lot of these "bestsellers" out there. And these bad but well-marketed books are taking all the eyes away from the actual good ones
