E, I think you're correct in discussing price point within the context of how to rate the AirPods Max. I get that you're rating a product based on its own merits. But price does lead to a comparison regarding price. There are studio grade monitor headphones at the $300-$400 price point that exceed what the AirPods Max can do on paper and on sound comparable or better (depending on what you emphasize in your listening experience). You buy these for convenience if you're in the Apple ecosystem and money is no object. For everyone else, there are better choices in the same $500+ price point and lower that do better. Are these even better than the AirPods Pro? That's the question.

Please do some more headphone videos. I want to hear your thoughts about high end ($1, 000) audio.

I have the AirPod max, sound is amazing, soundstage awesome, instruments don’t bleed into each other like the mx4.... mx4 is bad straight from the box, you’ll have to customize upon customize to get it running ... AirPod max is a pick and go device, so far loving it

Excellent point made here! It all comes down to the buyer's needs and perspective. These won't win the "value" proposition anywhere. But they they do bring a lot of features to the table for Apple users. Awesome work brother!

for me the biggest yikes is the lack of the 3.5. Sorry but you are a headset! a 3.5 should be there.... unless you have bluetooth on your pc or even less likely a lightning port you cannot use it...

the real cost of 3.5mm jack to lightning would be around 20 cents they are selling it for 35 bucks its crazy

This is the ONLY review that I have seen that's straight out said they are not worth the price. Not that they weren't good but there are other options that are just as good or better for much cheaper

I currently use headphones to sleep and want to get ANC headphones to improve my sleep. I have had 5 headphones break this year and I dont want it to happen again. My choices for this purpose are basically 3 models. Bose700, Sony xm4 or Airpods max. These are the finalists. Build quality is probably the most important to me as I do not want to get a piar that breaks and while i haven't seen these in person the Airpods Max look to be vastly superior in build quality to the other two. I don't know if Air Pods max will break or not, but based solely on build quality the Air Pods Max look like they will be far less likley to break as they are made of stainless steel. This is why I want to get a pair of these. I have to find one at an apple store first, but I plan to get these even though the price is to much for the performance I see no other option and do not want to pay 50% the amount of them only to find they break in 3 months. So for me I think the Air Pods Max are the best value in ANC headphones.

I like some aspects of the design but other than that.. the biggest mistake people make in audio is thinking that you have spend big money for great sound. There's tons of options for half the cost if you want dabble in audiophilla. Get a Sennhesier 560s and FiiO BTR5 and walk away a champ. There's so many better options for portability and performance, why lock into an ecosystem? Especially when most listening are just going to stream Mp3s over AAC. Trial Qobuz or Amazon HD over LDAC and you'll get it.

when you charge $550 dollars you enter the audio enthusiast land. I knew audio enthusiasts weren’t going to let this slide.$350 headphones for $550 to many head phones in this range that beat Apple silly at that price.

I think many of your assumptions are off about the average consumer. How many people do you think want to spend the time to tune their headphones? I would suspect that people would prefer headphones that use AI to automatically tune them based on the fit, ear size etc and continually adjust as needed. That is where you are undervaluing the auto EQ and computational audio in these headphones. Codec also isn’t everything, there is a reason LDAC often isn’t set as the default setting, poor connection reliability. Apple is able to tune these to far exceed what you typically hear from the AAC codec and additional customization by the artist could also be done if desired to present listeners with the audio exactly how the artist intended. Andru Edwards had a great video about this and the AirPods Max were the cheapest headphones currently available with this tech. I have the Sony 100X M3s and they are fairly comfortable, but my ears get too hot wearing them and the sound stage is much smaller than the AirPods Max. You are one of the only reviewers that has claimed otherwise. Build quality matters as well, there have been lots of reports of Sony failing to stand behind their product, just look up the Sony 1000X M2 cracking headband issues. Why don’t you compare these to B&O or Beyer Dynamic Headphones? Apple isn’t competing with Sony or Bose at this price point, so that would be a better comparison. The convenience of the ecosystem is greatly under appreciated by you as well, auto switching between my Mac, iPhone and iPad can’t be done by another company.

Enjoyed this! I think there are a lot of features about the AirPods Max that a lot of reviews are missing or skipping, which is where some people may find value (and of course some may not.) Spatial Audio, the adaptive EQ that listens and compensates for ear seal, all the H1 features, etc. Reviews will talk about the features that other headphones have that AirPods don’t, but then skip features that AirPods Max has that the others don’t. I do agree with this sentiment - if it’s just music audio you care about, the AirPods are not $200 better than the others. However, if all the H1 stuff matters to you, if you love watching TV and movies, etc. then you’ll find extra value here that you won’t with the others - BUT, a lot of those features work specifically with Apple devices. So if you aren’t using Apple stuff, this is an easy skip. If you are though, there are more things to consider! 👍🏽
