Do AirPods cause cancer?

Recently there was news released stating that over 200 scientists sent an appeal to the United Nations and the World Health Organization expressing serious concern about the electromagnetic field (EMF) emitted from bluetooth and wireless devices such as AirPods.

"EMF Scientists have serious concerns regarding the ubiquitous and increasing exposure to radiation from wireless devices and antennas from all sources, including the pulsed digital signals Bluetooth transmits," Elizabeth Kelley, the director of the International EMF Scientist Appeal.

There's no conclusive evidence that AirPods or other Bluetooth headsets are dangerous.

My solution - Limit the exposure that you have with wireless and bluetooth devices. Specially the ones with higher levels of radiation.

Youtube Video: Airpods and Wireless headphones could cause cancer.

Instead of just scaring people with the levels of radiation you're reading, do a video on the different types of radiation, ionising and non ionising and talk about the effects of varying wavelengths. Everything emits radiation, but it's the type of radiation we should be concerned about. Short wavelength ionising radiation will alter the cells and can lead to cancer, and these are typically found in machines such as X-Rays. Non ionising longer wavelength radiation does not alter the cells, and the most it will do is heat up your skin... and even then air pods aren't powerful enough to do that.

Well, short answer is no. But, firstly we have to define what is the electromagnetic wave, hence to know if this is dangerous or not. The radiation that your cellphone use, as well as the airpods is in the range of microwaves, and radio waves. This kind of radiation is non ionizing, which means that there will be not a change in the electrons. The problem start when we get to ionizing radiation, which they indeed change the electrons and ionize them, increasing possibilities of getting cancer. This radiation is UV, X rays, and gamma rays. Please, don't take me too seriously, because I know very little about this topic, and the studies aren't quite sure as if smartphones or airpods cause cancer. This is my Opinion.

You should try it with other Bluetooth devices to compare as a control group, etc. Since AirPods are basically Bluetooth I think it’ll be a good comparison

What would be useful is to measure the radiation of each device as measured from the normal distance that you would be from the device. It is normal to have the Airpods in your ear, but not normal to be sitting 2cm from a laptop, TV or light bulb, etc.

My EARPODS were at full volume and I think I got cancer from the intro.

Ear buds have a speaker in them. The speaker uses electromagnetism to move a membrane. The membrane then moves air waves to propagate sound. These electromagnetic waves are in the audio spectrum. This is why your wired ear buds registered electromagnetic radiation. This radiation will be proportional to the volume loudness and is directional. I suspect that this is what you were seeing on your measurement device.

Wireless headphones use a wireless signal to talk to the phone that is likely so weak that the measurement device you used would not pick up energy from it. Especially given that the electromagnetic radiation from the speakers is many times larger.

The radiation diagram you showed was for a cell phone, not ear buds. When you hold a cell phone up to your ear while talking, there is a lot of electromagnetic radiation entering your skull, as depicted by the diagram you showed. This electromagnetic radiation is in the UHF spectrum (or higher) and is considered by some to be unsafe for prolonged exposure.

Unlike prolonged cellphone usage next to your ear, earbuds causing cancer seems to be an open question. While these are two different things, you are right to raise the question as to the prolonged usage and our health. Based on the information I have reviewed, I use Airpods regularly as I feel they are safe. I rarely hold a cell phone up to my ear as I do not feel that is safe. As you probably know, the strength of electromagnetic radiation falls off with distance.

Another thing to consider is our brains aren't fully developed until our 20's. When my son was growing up, I rarely let him use a cellphone without a hands free device.

Lastly, when you did the measurement while watching a YouTube video, I suspect you were using WiFi. The bulk of the energy for the YouTube video was probably coming from your router, not your phone. Even still, the WiFi energy coming from your router is many times lower than the energy coming from your phone during a call.
