The thing has so much potential! Hopefully the next iteration could be better:
- bit thicker (would allow for bigger battery and improved camera to sit flush)
- smaller bezels
- improved software and processing

I'm most likely picking a gen 1 duo up to use as a companion device. They're in that sweet spot you discussed at around $400.00
I want to use it for work but also for reading books and comics, as well as the spanning feature for watching videos (which I know is a minor problem with the hinge). I've been watching dozens of videos on the Gen1 and I'm really happy you did a one year later video!

The phone is great.... Especially in the IT field. MS does seem to not want to push the boundaries and make this phone But I use this phone all the time for networking. I would love if it had windows 11 on this though.... That would be amazing! But android is robust. Last update helped with battery life finally!!

I like the ratio but the bezels should have been off to one side - EITHER the top or bottom, not both sides. Would help with one handed use when closed.

If this had shipped out with Windows 10 I would have gotten it immediately. I'm sad that the announcement of the surface duo 2 clarified that it would still not be able to run Windows programs. At least emulation, Microsoft, c'mon

This product would have been the perfect alternative or compliment to surface products and windows based OS...The concept was exception but they ended up screwing it in many ways something they are getting well at recently ... 1) The product's purpose of use has caused confusion for consumers who are mainly productive type it would have been a success if the OS was windows mobile supporting android apps 2) The intro price is too exorbitant high for a untested concept 3) Outdated hardwares particularly SOC and horrendous camera set up for the asking 4) Android software is so buggy and after sale support is unreliable 5) Begs the question why should i buy at this price with lots of limitation whereas a product with half the price can get the job done...

Absolutely agree about this as a companion device. I have a worked laptop and a regular smartphone. I picked up the Duo for $500. It's great for email, reviewing/comparing workpapers (I'm in finance), video calls. Wish there was an easy way to use it as a second screen with Windows.

I've just bought one of these for £350 brand new. I hear that MS have fixed many/most/all of the issues now and it's perfect for work use. Especially at a quarter of the price they launched at

Dude, the Android update has been confirmed for early October, it's the same build that will ship with the Surface Duo 2. If they'd have abandoned the device they wouldn't be launching a sequel. Also they committed to 3 years Android OS and Microsoft Launcher support. It went quiet as they were ensuring the upgrade to A11 was smoother and would in and of itself fix many of the bugs with dual screens. Really hoping for a smooth upgrade launch as I own one of these.

I got this for 700 and imported to uae, wanted to love and did . Then after a week found issues with battery and lines appearing on the screen . I sent it back to amazon and got the fold 3. Now I see how MS let a beautiful device down . I wish 2 is much better but I am loving the fold 3 . No regrets .

I got mine at the $699 price point from Best Buy. I wish I would have spent the extra $80 to get the 256GB version, but decided to get 128GB. I got it to replace my iPhone. I do work in IT, as well, and have really enjoyed the phone as my primary driver. I use it to connect to my work computer via Teamviewer and am looking at possibly using Windows 365 with it in the future. So far, most of my gripes have been nitpicky things from getting used to having an Android phone again. The thunderbolt dock compatibility sold the phone for me - I can dock this with my Dell Docking station and use my keyboard and mouse setup. I do find some of the included MS apps to be buggy - One Note, especially. I was using Note in Iphone for most of my important notes and none of that stuff would import, which made the whole Google Conversion almost useless. This ruined my start up as I am constantly having to go back and forth to recover notes that should have exported, but did not. Bad on Apple and Google for that.
