Chapter 13: Kinetics of a Particle : Force and Acceleration
Equations of Motion: Cylindrical Coordniates
Hibbeler Dynamics 14th ed

*13–92. The arm is rotating at a rate of u= 4 rad/s when = 3 rad/s^ 2 and u = 180. Determine the force it must exert on the 0.5-kg smooth cylinder if it is confined to move along the slotted path. Motion occurs in the horizontal plane.

question about the weight though, initially when I started this problem, I thought the normal force and weight were going to cancel out. I know the motion is occurring in the horizontal plane but I'm a bit confused as to why the weight got left out. Is it not acting in the opposite direction of the normal force in this case? When they say "horizontal plane", I interpreted that as an "overhead" view, as if we were viewing the motion from above?

Why tan-1 when in calculator is in degree but not radian?
