FDA looks into the risk of medical devices being hacked

The FDA is now taking a closer look at the possibility that hackers could take control of medical devices while they're in someone's body. CBS News correspondent Anna Werner joins CBSN to talk more about what is being done to prevent a potential attack.

Profits matter so much more in the "med device" world than quality assurance, quality control, patient safety, and all of those really important things...

I used to be a '20-something disabled female engineer' who worked *IN* the med device industry... until I ultimately lost my professional career because I had eventually become too physically ill to work -- mostly from stress BECAUSE I saw a lot of really unethical, disgusting things, just like this, on a daily basis.

Just to eliminate AND and ALL doubt- - it's absolutely NOT a question of brainpower, knowledge, financial resources, manpower / woman-power / people-power, lack of time, bad management, supply chain issues, etc. It's ALL about cutting corners and making money. *This IS how they do business in the medical device industry BECAUSE profits are what matter.* There's no reward for producing the best, most affordable, most awesome device that actually helps people & there isn't really a gigantic penalty if _some_ unknown number of random global citizens deaths _might_ be attributable to _your_ huge multinational corporation. (The same thing applies to the "big pharma" industry, too, based on what I've heard.)
