the lyrics to this song are really compelling

fun fact: the original song was over 6 minutes long but the band were only given a 4.5 minute slot in this program. instead of performing a different song, (or an abridged version) they simply played it at a higher tempo.

0:49 the first time I heard that change to Bm, my soul ascended

My dad’s uncle is the bassplayer here! He told us they wrote this in 15 min, i was told there also is an unreleased 30+ min version of this. Sadly, he passed away march this year, RIP Bert

For anyone wondering, this song is “Hocus Pocus” by “Focus.”

This is one of those rare live performances that absolutely trumps the album versions. I can hardly even listen to the original ever since hearing this one

Best part is, the words "yodelling in rock" were enough to tell me what song this was before I even clicked

"with the ferocious might of a lion" might be my favourite musical notation in the history of space and time.

Yodeling rockstar Denethor isn't real. He can't hurt you.

Not even my genre, but hands down the best live performance I've ever seen. Such a synergy, although the singer Thijs van Leer must have been on something, if not everything.

So glad that Baby Driver clued me into this live performance. I miss the days when guys could go on TV and play music in a very obviously elevated state of consciousness.

Btw the guitar solos between the yodeling and whistling are also mind-blowing! Some sick sweeps and arpeggios.
Jan Akkerman is a madman!

His range is absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD

As a Dutchman, I'm glad this has found its way to the greater reaches of the internet in 2022. It's basically a Dutch folksong by now, everyone knows the lyrics!

I became a Fan of the Focus band because the studio version of this song. But when I see this version, wow, THAT'S A JAW DROPPING PERFORMANCE

This song is how I was introduced to Jan Akkerman (the guitarist). Definitely should check out his solo stuff. He once wrote a middle eastern disco album in a day because someone in a bar said it couldn't be done

The jump in tone he does in these semiquaver are just amazing, this is so technical, so well executed. Truly impressive

I'm impressed he did the "train whistle" part on his own

This is an unbelievably talented expression of vocal precision and range.

Before seeing this video: "Meh yodeling what the heck?"
After seeing this video: Watching original video with the full thing like 20 times in a row.
