I'm a retired Teamster with millions of driving miles across all of America with many trips to Europe, UK, Canada and Mexico.

This was the best, the most beautiful, the most fun drive I've ever done. My face hurt from smiling so much.
Go off season, support local business and leave the camper at home. There were lots of "Van Life" types filling every free lot and a lot of places were semi-hostile to them. Take your time and enjoy it.

We'll be doing the NC500 early July. We hired a campervan and will be traveling it with 3 of my best mates. We hired the van for 9 days, 7 of those will be to do the NC500. I can't wait to go on this unforgetable adventure!

My advice would be don't think of this route as something to somehow tick off a bucket list. It's become a 'route' that can't really deal with the amount of traffic and footfall. Please be open minded to visiting other parts of the Scottish highlands. Just as impressive in similar and very different ways.

I did it years ago and was lucky I had a Road Atlas with me as I lost sat nav signal several times, it may have changed now but best always have one in case !
