Historians Kären Wigen and Caroline Winterer explore how maps organize us in time as well as space. They highlight beautiful maps from their new book, including early maps of China and the Aztec empire, the floodwaters of the Mississippi River, and other curious conjunctions of time and space achieved through the medium of cartography.

Caroline Winterer is the William Robertson Coe Professor of History and the author of five books, including American Enlightenments: Pursuing Happiness in the Age of Reason. Kären Wigen is the Frances & Charles Field Professor of History, teaches Japanese history and the history of cartography. Together they are co-editors of Time in Maps: From the Age of Discovery to our Digital Era.
