Here's a nice co-called 'visualizer' video for Paragraph Four that the nice folks at Reigning Phoenix Music put together to celebrate today's release of The Last Will & Testament.

(And a proud moment to have none other than Mr Ian Anderson performing on this track with flute & spoken word!)

Enjoy!

you immediately know it's Opeth when you're listening to about 5 songs in one song

Opeth returns to their metal roots while pushing prog deep into the avant-garde. Immaculate mastery.

This album has the mystique of Ghost Reveries, the edginess and weirdness of Watershed, epicness and production of In Cauda, chord shapes and riffage with a Blackwater Park feel, I fucking love this

The flute is a heavy metal instrument. Give this band a Grammy too!

This album masterfully captures the balance Mikael Åkerfeldt set out to establish 13 years ago when he decided to take a break from harsh vocals. During that time, he explored new textures and experiences that now come together in a work that blends the band’s personal and artistic journey. It’s an album that completely envelops you with its aura, atmosphere, and narrative, drawing you into a deeply human sonic landscape.

Virtuosity has always been an unmistakable hallmark of Opeth. With flawless production and obsessive attention to detail, the band perfectly balances the weight and fury of their signature style while adding a dark and somber depth that enriches their sound. Mikael, after 34 years as the creative core of the band, sounds more solid, versatile, and vital than ever. His voice remains the gravitational center, anchoring every note and emotion.

On drums, Waltteri Väyrynen brings a fresh energy while preserving the essence crafted by legends like Martin Axenrot and Martin López. His dynamism revitalizes the band’s rhythmic foundation. Meanwhile, Martín Méndez, constant and unwavering for 27 years, continues to be the indispensable partner shaping each song’s structure, always adding depth and strength to every composition.

Fredrik Åkesson, who made his mark with Arch Enemy before joining Opeth, has proven that this was one of the best decisions of his life. His solos, speed, and rhythmic textures elevate the grandeur of this album. Joakim Svalberg, for his part, is a fundamental pillar in the album’s most disorienting and beautiful moments. His work on the mellotron and keyboards, combined with his vocal support, enriches every passage with harmony and grace.

This album undoubtedly represents Opeth’s most defined and cohesive work to date—a new standard that opens the door to more ambitious musical horizons. Balancing a look to the future with the foundations that ground them, the band’s genuine passion and commitment to musical artistry shine through. With this release, Opeth doesn’t just meet expectations—they surpass them and transcend themselves.

The way the chords develop right about 3:23 is insane. And again about 3:37. If that's not some peak Opeth, I don't know what is.
Mikael said recently he's not interested in making just straight prog anymore. Like he got it out of his system.

This album draws on their entire toolbox. Death growls, complex riffs and harmonies, frickin crazy Jethro Tull flute solo, harps, weird proggy interludes.
Every member on the band is on fucking POINT. Welcome to the band Waltteri! You're a mad genius and we're here for it.
Don't know if the guys in Opeth will ever see this, but man....well done guys!

Opeth will forever be the only band that introduced generations to Metal with full gears and will remain an icon for ages and a mind-blowing inspiration for years to come.

Such an album can only be made by a well-listened musician who is not limited by genre and knows exactly what he wants, and we know that Mikael is that. All the music he listens to has built his special style, but only an incredible talent can make it happen. Opeth is simply unique and fantastic.

Omg I didn't even realize how much I wanted this. The growl is better than ever and this sounds a lot closer to old Opeth.

I didn't have any expectations, but I'm shocked. What a song. This should be the first single. One of the best Opeth song in years.

I'm still taking it in! As a fan since I was 12 years old... I am now 32.

This feels both refreshing and familiar. I cannot wait to hear more like this, yet I am still letting this album sink in.
This has so many layers and it surpasses both musicality and lyricism. It's pure art as far as I'm concerned.
I am loving it and ingesting it as slowly and comprehensively as possible.

LONG LIVE OPETH!!!!

We all knew that Jethro Tull has always been a huge influence, not only to Mikael, but on Opeth's sound itself, and having Ian Anderson on this song is insane! Definition of a masterpiece.
