I always saw Ophanim as appendages of the 'living creatures'. Like arms or legs. They're angelic. Angels are spirits. Just because we can't see the connection with our eyes doesn't mean it isn't there. And, just as the spirit of man resides in his arms or legs (and we move them at will), the spirit of the living creatures was (similarly) in the wheels.
So it's what makes sense to me. They're one in the same. (And one more reason God is mind-blowingly super cool.)

In the original film, The Matrix, is a depiction of the four angels who are the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar. If you look carefully, you will see the animal motif in each character. Morpheus has a face like a lion. Tank has a face like a calf. Trinity has the structure of a flying eagle. Neo has the face of a man. Ok, this video is saying a lot without really saying anything. Especially regarding “The” Angel of the LORD. Thing I have to assume it’s Gabriel. He appeared to Mary & Zachariah (John the Baptist father). It’s not Michael as he is not really shown dealing or associating with humans really. So why didn’t the makers of this video just come out & speculate as to who it was? Wasted effort but again I’m going with Gabriel. He’s only the one who had the most divine revelation to share everyone in the whole bible. Facts!
