Jerod Mayo doesn’t name a starter, but calls Drake Maye the Patriots’ second-best QB

Jacoby Brissett has not been officially named the Patriots’ starting quarterback for Week One, but head coach Jerod Mayo suggested Brissett will start ahead of Drake Maye. Mayo said he is comfortable with Maye being one injury away from playing but views him as the second-best QB. Brissett could have continued playing despite a shoulder injury, and the plan was to take him out after the first possession. Mayo expects to name a starter by Monday night but reserves the right to change his mind.
