That is what you call cutting a light as in an 0.500 light. Kudos to the driver of the Red 68 Mustang

As someone that has had foxbodies, tuners, 60s muscle cars and dragged them, I will say that the excitement from ripping a car with no power steering, drum brakes and a nice small block is totally different than a new car.

If I were a somewhat wealthy man in this day & age (and, I'm mature), I'd like to have a '66 fastback Mustang with a 289 tuned to within an inch of its life. An engine really crackling at idle. Four speed, of course. Hell, I wouldn't even abuse the engine, just enjoy those lovely V-8 sounds.

I wish I still had my 1967 Square back Mustang., it had a 1970 351 Clevland engine, OK Kustom headers, Offenhauser intake, modified 750 Holley double pumper, MSD ignition, Sheiffer flywheel and clutch, Hurst shifter, 9' Ford rear end with 4.86:1 Zoom gears

I wish these races had a camera at the big end, to truly see close the races really are!

The new age engines sound like road racing cars…The old-school engines sound like drag racing cars

Beautiful 65, that 289 sounds healthy. Amazing how much HP you can get from a Ford SB v8.

I used to go to that raceway in the late 90s. My friend had a 68 mustang with a 5.0 motor in it. Good memories out there.

great RT/launch by the '68 but that coyote ran his ass down on the big end.

I have a 2019 GT. I’ve also had an ‘86 GT. The sound of the old 289, 302 and 351w sounds way better than the modern coyote motors.

Badass 68! Hail to the old cars! I got a 68 coupe too… wicked 347 stroker. We’re lighter than the new ones, and often times we’re faster! Who won? Can’t see

I LOVE THIS BODY STYLE, AND I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE LIL 289. I'VE HAD MANY UNDER HOODS IN THE PAST.

I owned several 289 Mustangs as a young man, including one real fast back K code (aka HIPO). You really could'nt get more than about 335 HP out of them without putting bigger valves in the heads. Back in the 60's the go to were the Chevy 1.90 intake valves with lots of porting work. Then with a max setup you could get around 400 HP.

If these two cars had a conversation back then,

Calm down dont get all reved up
Shut up old man ima smoke yo ass
Son you can't even stand your ground
It just shows how much power i have!!!
Yet u can't control it.... Also

Old school is the best

People think they need a huge engine to make power. I had a 66 comet with the 289. Never thought it was lacking anything. A mild cam and a 4 barrel intake is all you need.
