GSM + GPS Based Vehicle Location Tracking System using Arduino

In this video, we will learn about how to make an Arduino Based Vehicle Tracking System using GPS & GSM Module. Most of the vehicle tracking system available in the market is too costly. So, I decided to make my own Tracking System. The vehicle tracking system will send you the location to your mobile phone along with the Google map coordinate. You can request the location at any time & view the location on Google Maps installed on your mobile phone.

For this project, I have to select a proper low power GSM & GPS Module. So, I selected A9G GSM+ GPRS+GPS Module. The device is very small and can fit anywhere & be operated using a simple 3.7V Lithium-Ion Battery. The Board has a 32-bit ATSAMD controller from Atmel which can be programmed using Arduino IDE.

After programming the board via Arduino IDE, the board will take some time for retrieving location by fixing the GPS Coordinates. You can request the location by sending a message like typing a word Location. Within a while, you will receive an SMS along with the Google maps coordinates.
You can also make this project using Neo-6M GPS Module & SIM 800 or SIM900 GPS Module with Arduino UNO Board. But this will make the device size large. We will discuss in detail about this project.

Keep in mind 2G is not in service in most western countries. There is a 4g version of this device. Hope you can do a tutorial on that as well.

Could this setup alternatively be used to gather the car's GPS data in real-time while connected to the phone, essentially replacing the phone's built-in GPS unit?

Nice video and explanation! I have a follow-up question: would it be possible to connect this setup to a cars 12V connection, because the board has a voltage regulator IC? That would be a nice option, instead of charging the battery again and again.
