Guyana is at the right point where it can go into SMR (small modular reactor) technology to produce safe and reliable zero carbon emission electricity. Moreover, there are floating barge options which could be ideal for a country where the vast majority of people live below sea level. Hydro will require large investment in transmission as well as environmental damage to forest, fish and other wildlife. SMR promises to be an elegant solution that would place Guyana as a leading example to other countries.
