Hey friends!

In today's video I want to share with you a preparation process I went through in one of my recent paintings.

This is the first out of a 3-video sequence showing the process of this painting.

This video will present two main things:
1. How to manipulate an image in order to better understand its values, in a way that will make painting easier.
2. A quick color selection process, for how to choose a color scheme for a painting.

Here is the link to the original picture, if you want to see it in full resolution:

The next video will be a time-lapse video, and then the final one will be fully narrated.

I hope you enjoy

Growing fast Liron :) 6k subs! Love to see your success, it is thanks to your hard work with consistency, which few channels do (considering that there are millions of channels, that is), so you are already part of the outliers.

Posterize, is what i do always....to make the underpainting. I saw ones a tip to make the underpainting in (pastel pencils) a mid tone...so you can fil in the darks and the lights later. Does that make sense in watercolor?

@Yasmine S. Yes, I got a pretty decent pair off Amazon for that.
Just kidding XD
Outside you have to make do. And your visual perception works better when it's actually in front of you, so it's easier to see the values (;

Right, it is a good way to reduce colors, this way you know on what you have to focus and don't focus too much on gradience that might be also hart when using watercolors! :D

Posterizing on the computer works great for values which I did for oil paintings. But, personally, doing values in watercolor as I go would drive me bonkers. I have to do an underpainting using my lightest value and then let dry and put layers on top for deeper values. I'm pretty sure I couldn't see the values properly any other way light-to-dark transparences nor would I know how to mix them on the palette. I admire your abilities mixing that way.

I really enjoy most aspects of computer technology, but when it comes to art- I have to wonder, how did the Great Masters do it?
