White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt holds a briefing for news media.

Donald Trump said he will double metal tariffs against Canada and threatened to impose levies on its car industry as the US president stepped up his trade war.

In the latest souring of relations between the North American neighbours, Mr Trump announced he would impose 50pc tariffs on all steel and aluminium coming into the US from Canada.
