We offer driving lessons in Victoria BC.

The ICBC Road Test tips covered in this video are:

Road Test Tip Number 1: Have all the appropriate documentation and fees with you.

Road Test Tip Number 2: Arrive early. ICBC recommends that you arrive 15 minutes earlier to your road test appointment.

Road Test Tip number 3. When you're parking into your road test stall, reverse stall park into it if it is allowed and it's not an angled parking stall.

Road Test Tip Number 4: Bring a licensed or insured, road worthy vehicle to the road test.

Road Test Tip Number 5: Now is a good time to ask any questions you may have. This is also a good time to let the examiner know if you're feeling nervous.

Road Test Tip Number 6: They want to see: are you communicating with other road users?

Road Test Tip Number 7: They want to see that you're always looking in the direction of travel.

Road Test Tip Number 8: This is along the lines of Tip number 6, but they are looking to see if you're scanning.

Road Test Tip Number 9: The want to see you show that you understand the speed limits on the stretch of roads.

Road Test Tip Number 10: Maintain a good following distance and stopping distance.

Road Test Tip Number 11: Have smooth acceleration and deceleration.

Road Test Tip Number 12: Watch out for school zones, play ground zones and construction zones.

Road Test Tip Number 13: Know your hazards.

Road Test Tip Number 14: Parking maneuvers. What they want to see if you're doing the maneuver safely. Which means communicating with the other drivers and looking in the direction of travel.

Road Test Tip Number 15: At some point the examiner will ask you to open your car door. They are looking to see if you check left side mirror and shoulder check before opening the door.

Road Test Tip number 16: Keep both hands on the wheel at all times.

Road Test Tip Number 17: Stay centered in your lane. Don't deviate from your lane if you're not performing a lane change or turning.

Road Test Tip Number 18: Make full stops at stop signs and red lights.

Road Test Tip Number 19: As you approach an intersection, have a plan!

Road Test Tip Number 20: Is it an uncontrolled intersection? If it is, then you can proceed without stopping only if it's safe to do so.

Road Test Tip Number 21: Is it a 2 way stop? Did you make a full stop before the stop line? Do you have a good view of the cross street traffic? If not, pull forward a bit more to get better viewing angle without blocking their path. Is there another vehicle at the 2 way stop and you want to turn left in front of them? Then they have the right of way.

Road Test Tip Number 22: Is it a 4 way? As you approached did you pay attention who was already stopped at the intersection? Remember it's first come first serve. Did you and another vehicle arrive at the exact same time? Remember the person on the right goes first.

Road Test Tip Number 23: Is it a traffic circle? As you approach you signal as you normally would at an intersection and you go around the circle on the right but you need to yield to traffic that's already in the circle and approaching from the left hand side.

Road Test Tip Number 24: Are you coming up to a traffic signal controlled intersection? Did you see the light turn green or is it a stale green?

Road Test Tip Number 25: As you approach the intersection, where is your point of no return?

Road Test Tip Number 26: Are you making a left turn? What kind of light are you dealing with? Is it an advance, protected, or regular intersection light?

Road Test Tip Number 27: Are you making a right turn? Make sure you signal in advance, but not so far in advance that's not clear where you're turning.

Road Test Tip Number 28: When make a turn, turn into the first available lane.

Road Test Tip Number 29: Do you lane changes only when it is safe to do so.

Road Test Tip Number 30: If you're going for your class 5 road test, you will be taken onto the highway. Make sure you know how to enter, drive on and exit the highway safely.

Road Test Tip Number 31: If you're not familiar with the test area, consider driving around that area before you road test date or ask a local driving school for a mock road test to help you better prepare.

Road Test Tip Number 32: Don't make a big deal out of the road test.

1. bring ID and money - if your care card and DL are on the same card
they only count as 1
2. arrive early - ICBC recommends 15m early
3. reverse stall park into the road test stall to allow you to start
your test forward
4. bring a licenced, insured, road-worthy vehicle
5. before the test, talk to the examiner and ask any questions you have
- let them know if you're nervous
6. signal
7. look in the direction of travel - 360 check before reversing *not a
mirror*
8. always be scanning
9. speed control - 50k on city roads, 20k on lanes or alleys
10. maintain a good following distance and stopping distance
11. smooth acceleration and deceleration
12. watch for school zones, playground zones, and construction zones -
all 30k
13. hazard perception - at some point in the test youll be asked to name
5 hazards you can see
14. parking maneuvers - they don't care as much if you can park
perfectly; they're looking for safe maneuvering, communicating with
other drivers, looking in the direction of travel, etc
15. vehicle door safety - check the mirror and shoulder check
16. keep both hands on the wheel
17. stay centered in your lane
18. full stops - don't roll at all, make it clear
19. plan for intersections before getting there
20. uncontrolled intersection - proceed without stopping only if safe
21. 2-way stops - pull forward to get a better viewing angle *after*
making a full stop at the line
22. 4-way stops - if you arrive at the exact same time the person on the
right goes first
23. traffic circles - signal left while in the circle and right to leave
the circle
24. traffic lights - remember stale greens etc. *don't* run a yellow
unless you can't stop safely
25. know the point of no return approaching an intersection
26. left turns - know your waiting position, know what to do on a yellow
27. right turns - check rearview mirrow, rightside mirrow, shoulder
check before making a right turn
28. turn into correct lane
29. lane changes - only change lanes if safe
30. highway driving - make sure you can enter, drive on, and exit
highways
31. be familiar with the road test neighbourhood
32. don't worry

Just passed my N test today.

The main takeaway for everyone tryna pass, EXAGGERATE your shoulder checking and scanning as much as possible and make sure that you call out when u shoulder check if the examiner ISN'T looking or is writing something down, they will assume you didn't at all if you don't tell them. They have dinged me for that over 2 times, I was only able to pass today because I made that effort to let them know.

going into it thinking you've already failed so you can actually focus is the best advice I've ever heard

I’m 19 and I’ve always been scared of driving. I’ve started practicing using the brake petal just a little and being able to make small turns in an empty school parking lot when no one’s around since I worry about people watching me. I decided not to skip my test drive by hiring a professional and license Dmv private agent and i was given a provisional driver's license. Driving is something I’ve never wanted to do because I’ve always been scared of it, but I’ve realised it’s something that we all have to do when the time comes because without having the ability to drive, you will not be able to have independence or have any freedom in this life or even make anything of yourself. So, to anyone who is in my shoes right now the best thing to do is not stress, ask questions, or just go for a provisional license.

This video is a really good reference for those who have practiced their driving skills and need a refresher on what to expect on their road test. I passed on my 4th try a couple days ago and watching this over and over got me in the right mindset and helped me mentally prep for the test! Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for making these videos. I just passed my class 5 road test today!
I failed the same test 2 weeks ago. Between the fail and today's pass, I literally binge-watched your videos 😀.
I will be recommending this channel to anyone in BC who wants to improve their driving or pass their road test. It's such a great resource!

I remember failing my first road test because I had an allergic reaction to the examiner's aftershave. Within 10 minutes of him being in my vehicle I had to ask him if we could stop because I couldn't breathe and my eyes were swelling shut. Now I think ICBC has a scent-free policy.
