Harvesting And Cooking FiddleHead Ferns (Ostrich Ferns)

Показать описание
How we harvest and cook wild fiddlehead ferns (Ostrich Ferns). Nothing beats spending time in the great outdoors and coming home with a tasty treat.

The harvesting window is short. Often only a week for us. We often start watching the ferns when our lilac bush starts to bug out.

A great spring wild edible and a great bushcraft skill.

Use caution when harvesting wild edibles. Be sure that you are harvesting the correct plant.

About Life In Farmland: Our family strives to be as self-sufficient as we can be. We grow a lot of food in the garden, raise or hunt for our meat, cut and use firewood to heat our house in the cold Minnesota winters. We want to know where our food comes from, what goes into it. We strive to live a slower and sustainable lifestyle with family being our first priority. On this channel, you will find a lot of how-tos, shared experiences, recipes, and videos of things we are trying and learning more about.

I'm so disappointed that we dug up the fiddlehead ferns back in 1995 when we bought our house. I could've been harvesting them all this time if I'd known then what I'm learning now. Thanks for sharing. Love from SW Minnesota

Your channel is just so refreshing! No Youtube drama. I like to call you the Ina Garten of homesteading. Thank you.

With all the different types of ferns we have growing on our property I was disappointed that we do not have the Ostrich fern. You are so lucky to have them!

We have those in Hawaii and we use them in salad after boiling. Japanese call them warabi, us Hawaiians call them pohole or ho'I'o

Awesome video, love how you take Grace out and teach her what to look for. Cast iron skillets are the best, it always cooks meat well. I bet you feel better after good food with no chemicals or such on it. Thanks for sharing.

Looks delicious, I'm going to investigate if these grow in southeast Kansas. Venison is amazing delicious protein!

I was also taught not to pick them alongside the roads as the county might have sprayed herbicides along the area.

You have two beautiful ladies in your life! Keep a sharp knife for the boys when they come calling. I have a boy about your daughters age and he scares me now! Lol. Great video.
