This bedroom is the second room renovation in my Joshua Tree cabin. I just wrapped up the Shed-to-workshop series and I'll be getting back on the grind renovating more rooms in the house. This episode ended up being longer than an HTGV house flipping show but there were so many projects packed into this space.. thanks for being patient!

MODERN BUILDS

Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

In demo, considering removing carpet after paint.
Your carpet will be a “free” catch for the popcorn scrape, drywall compound, and paint drips.

Maaaan, that crack in the floor is killing me. xDDD How about filling it with epoxy and gold pigment? Kintsugi style… Would go really cool with the yellows.

This came out SO COOL! Love the fun vibe, and to think that you own this little jewel out in the desert....well, you and your family should be proud of what you've accomplished in such a short time. I'm 73 (and live in the AZ desert) and love watching you, Rachel, and Wood Brain. So glad you all know each other and help each other out. So, so entertaining.

Looks nice. It would make my heart warm if the sides of your curtains were hemmed. Sewing machine works pretty much like a band saw. You can do it. So many DIY videos on this website that glue and tape fabric together. Sewing straight lines is so easy.

I love the mirror in the bookshelf! That’s such a creative way to create a condensed vanity space

The final result is very nice but I wondered why you covered up an electrical outlet with the pegboard? In my experience, you can never have too many outlets...

I'm going to bet on a kintsugi type thing for the cracks in the floor, a la the concrete and gold kintsugi coffee table you did a while back!

Awesome work as always!!
Tip for the curtains: attach the rod closer to the ceiling so it creates the illusion of having bigger windows. It makes the room cozier.
Also, nice Brett cameo there haha

Explaining the gap between the concrete and joint compound was a good one to make. I have always wondered about that in finished garages, and that really makes sense!

I love the modular units! It looks ultra modern in design but the wood elements warm it up. Nice job.

I love the use of bright colors too!! It's so rare a male would be comfortable with such a color for a room. Definitely retro vibes. 👌🏻

It's so exciting when anything - tile, wallpaper, popcorn ceiling - comes off in large sheets. Happy dance! 😄

That renovation turned out great. I noticed the cool light fixture on the ceiling. Nice!

I love when your Dad is in the videos. Y'all are so cool, I loved when y'all put the flagpole up together and drank beer.

You should totally do GOLD in the cracks. I know someone AWESOME on YouTube who did that on a round coffee table a few years ago...it was YOU! hehehe

I really liked how you showed it all in one video
It bugs me when people post it in different parts throughout multiple weeks!

You could make that into a air B n B, not sure if that area is a tourist area, but if it is, you can rent it out all year round after you finish with the entire reno of the house. Btw, few changes on your bus (maybe), is the folding door, I've seen people changed that to a regular door, , add security system, add solar panel on top and finally add a system to collect rain water so you don't have to constantly have to get water for showering, etc. If you design a way to collect rain water on the top of the bus then have the water drain down into the bus through pvs pipes then it will solve a long term water issue because it will always rain. And if you drive to certain states, it rains like crazy all the time (cough, cough, Washington state or Oregon). Sorry for leaving such a long comment.
