From my experiences there is a little bit of truth to this.

Not all Canadians are like this, many of them are cool people but I did get this really snooty vibe from some people from Ontario that as an American you're really look down on as something lesser. Even before recent events between Trump and Trudeau I always picked up on this passive aggressive fake nice snotty attitude from some Canadians, especially when they find out your American.

Now I'm not saying there aren't Americans who have been guilty of similar behavior towards Canadians but in the US we usally sell this Image of Canadians being "nice" and "freindly". Also left wing Americans for the last decade have been selling this idea that Canada is a Liberal utopia and the US should be more like them. So it comes off as a shock when you go over there and your given the cold shoulder, or talk down on, or they assume the worst about you the moment they hear your from the US and start acting like they're automatically better then you.

Again not all Canadians, but I'm betting someone on this shows writing staff has had a similar experience at some point.

I for one am Canadian and I would like to say that yes, Canadians have a reputation for being polite and friendly, but the truth is you can find rude people anywhere in the world. I myself am a Torontonian (a city with a reputation for being full of rude people) and people have told me that I am so warm and friendly that they thought I was from Ottawa. I don't know where the script writers got their inspiration for these characters, but I can honestly say it is soooo inaccurate.

Who returns a gift to someones face like that? I like craft beer and friends and family have given me mix sixs that have had a beer I have tried and know i don't like, but I wouldn't take it out of the sixer and hand it back to their face. What the hell ?
