One thing I noticed - that 2 flute bit looks like it touched the y on part of the core where the x touched on the edge of the flute. To avoid an axis offset error, it Makes the most sense to zero like this with a precision ground rod or a carbide ball tipped probing bit. For large workspace work the potential error likely won't be noticable, but the more precision and smaller workpiece you get, the .030" error could make for some frustration.

You're going to be off depending on what point of the flute makes electrical contact. Youre better choice would be the endmill shank as they are a precision ground cylinder

Cnc operator here this is now in a nightmare of mine

This would be "close enough" for finding the zero corner of a plywood sheet to cut out pieces, but in that case eyeballing would be more than adequate. NOT if you wanted to precisely locate on an already finished object. You'll be off by as much as 1/8".

I have the same open builds machine and have enjoyed it. I also have the probe and interface controller all great units!

whats the point of probing x and y? cant you just add a radius value?

DO YOU NEED TO USE OPENBUILDS IN ORDER TO USE THIS PROBE?, OR CAN YOU USE OTHER CAD/CAMS?

Looks like you are using a 2 fluted tool. To accurately set your X & Y zeros you need to manually rotate the tool so that it contacts on the same dimension of the tool.

Your X zero was set on a land but your Y was in a flute. Your Y zero could be off by as much as the tooth depth.

On my CNC machine for cutting 3/4" plywood, I used 3 to 4 passes. In this method, only the head of the bit was always engaged, and the rest was like new after a couple of weeks. Is cutting plywood sheets with 1 pass doable?

Shouldn't the tool spin at a low rpm when you do the X/Y calibration, The 2-flute is defiently not round. Not critical for most parts, but then why need a conductive zeroing tool?

Hold up! Where did you get that controller? That's exactly what I'm looking for !

will this work with an axiom cnc router as well?

This works to determine that corner point but the part is still free to rotate around that center point.

What is used to create the square x or y line?

you should use a solid ground pin if you are going to use that method. it all depends on how accurate you want your work to be.

Its perfect! Can you write the same macros for Mach 3 CNC machine?

This is amazing I'm building a cnc at the moment and this is something I will definitely use

I want a cnc machine but don’t want to spend over 1000 but want as big and as feature packed as I can get. Recommendations?

Is this a machine you built? I'm looking to build a router that can do 4x8 sheets
