Dear Friends in this video I have explained to calculate the center distance between matching gear & pinion when the PCD (Pitch Circle diameter ) is unknown. It is very useful while we are going to replace the damaged gear of gearbox or Girth gear or open gear.
Center distance calculation is explained using formula with example.

Center Distance = (dg + dp)/2
Where dg = PCD of Gear
dp = PCD of Pinion
PCD = mz
m = OD/(z+2)
Example in this case we have two gears with same OD & No. of teeth
If Gear OD = 800 mm
No. of teeth in Gear = 36
m = 800/ (36+2) = 21.05
Center Distance = (m1z1+m2z2)/2
Here m1=m2 & z1 = z2
Center distance = (36x21.05 + 36x 21.05)/2
= 757.8 mm
