Scratch is a great learning tool for programming, it's BASICally BASIC for the modern era, which's what a lot of people started with before moving on to something like assembly in the '80s and '90s. You can use scratch the same way, as a tool to learn the basics, and then move on to something more advance.

In my opinion it's better to start off with a high level language like python or JavaScript because scratch can slow your progress
