VW Beetle 1966 distinguishing Facts, on how to tell if you've got a genuine Volkswagen 1966 beetle, In this vid we cover what came from earlier beetles to the 66 and what was new and specific to the 66 Beetle and also what ended with the 66, we also cover what new additions followed on to the 67 beetle, which of course had plenty of its own new additions. Thank for coming over to Joe's rust buckets to watch this informative vid and we hope that you enjoyed it,

Late model 66 beetles got the 67 style door handles with round door locks. My late model 66 has the seam on the handle and is stainless steel.

I noticed you are missing the “unique” knob for the hazard lights, is “one year only! Is a knob the flashes when turned on. It’s really cool!

I remember when the 66 came out. Yes, the side trim was for 66 and older. As for the door handles, in this country, (United States), we got those door handles in 1960, or at least similar looking ones. 1967 did introduce the round push buttons, but I have seen 67s with square push buttons. The flip-out windows were an option, not standard equipment. In this country, we didn't get the 4-way turn indicator until 67. The 67 had those same trim strips on the inside door panels. We in this country didn't get the dash-mounted ignition switch until the 68 cars.

Now if you are in Australia 67 was still 6v 5 stud pattern wheels, wide trim fits all. Up to 67

Hi Joe

A couple of editions
Red and white heater knobs one year only
Grey bumper irons
Interior seat covers weave in middle plain sides
And I think your door handles maybe 67 66 were round button

Thanks for the detailed tour Joe! The adjustable braces are great. Kind of like a waist belt. If you get a heavy load you can stretch out a bit! =)

I like that thicker side chrome trim, looks nice! You definitely have some work ahead of you. I know you’ll get it done.

Here in the US 65 are the seats are one year only...they're then first seats with the shinny seat back and last year of the white seat frames. 66 was the first year of the black seat frames

Hey mate, you should specify your location all your info. It’s great I owned a ‘66. You cannot make a general statement about a ‘66 due to the fact that they differ in England, Mexico and Brazil, I assuming you are in Australia your model matches with the ones in USA 🇺🇸 ( my location). I do have an extra turn signal lever but shipping will be really expensive! 😆

As far as I’m aware joe but I’m open to correction is In Europe Sloping headlights and 12 volt system carried on into 67 model for a time, also 67 model had no knob on the ashtray and some kept the ignition on the dash unless they had a steering lock fitted. 67 also had a locking engine lid and some came with 1200 engines. As with these being crossover models they came with all or some of these features so the only true identifiers are the chassis number.

Here in the USA, my 66 beetle had a chrome enblem on the engine bonnet that read "1300". In 67, the engine bonnet had a bump-out at the license plate light. And I think there was a "Volkswagen" chrome emblem where mine had the "1300". I believe the 67 was also increased to 1, 500cc as well as being 12V.

All euro bugs had sloping headlights. It was just US that got the new headlights. Australia had pre 65 style bugs as model year 67. The years 65 to 67 had alot of changes.

My Australian 1966 is a 1300 Deluxe with wide 5 wheels and clothes hanger bumpers. It is white with a red interior and black carpet. It also has red sash-only seatbelts, The only thing not original is the current motor as the original one lost its oil pressure after 50 years and needs an overhaul.
