Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to make a simple simon over knot . Easy step by step instructions for tying a simple simon over knot in this guide.

Although synthetic rope has much higher breaking strength than natural fibre, some types can be very slippery and do not hold knots well. The simple simon over is a relatively new knot developed by Harry Asher in 1989, which holds securely in slippery rope or rope of different diameters. It is similar in appearance to the reef knot or square knot. It is tied easily and quickly and is tied similarly to the sheet bend. This is another knot that deserves to be more widely known and used.

Great subject line. Being in a hurry with "impossible" rope, I don't need "X Many Knots You MUST Know Or You Will DIe", , , just a simple answer to how to tie slippery rope together. My "go to" square knot is useless for the rope I have. THANK YOU.

Thankyou for your quick reply. I won't buy any rope til I've tested it. Lucky the Walmart rope was ony $7
I like the way you explained the camel hitch by its combining clove and cow hitch' This may lead to analysis of knot dynamics and help the learning and memory process. So far I see the clove, the marlin spike, sheet bend and other knots as ''parent'' knots--but i'm sure there are a few more eg Karash Double Loop has now replaced previous double loop knots by fire and rescue teams It is a hybrid of Fig 8 on a bight and bowline Your thoughts? Would make a significant video

Do the 2 loose ends need taping to each of their original rope to keep it locked when taking weight or one tightened can they be left loose without the knot slipping open.
I wonder about this with a good few knots I see you show us.
Is there any that have to be or depend on being taped back to original or mother rope, what ever you call it , lol
Thank you. 😊
