After confronting the long lost body of his father and the story of his death and disappearance in the fall of 1999, director Max Lowe finds perspective on his own story by exploring it in ways he never thought to. How we see ourselves in the stories of our own lives, impacts how we empathise not only with the people around us but also with our own struggles and pain. Through telling his story and exploring his place within it, Max discovers how we might all find radical vulnerability and perspective by placing ourselves as characters within our own narratives. Known for his ability to capture stories in the most remote corners of the world, Max Lowe has honed his skill as a director and photographer in his search for adventure and narratives unheard. From his home in the mountains of Montana to now countless countries, landscapes and cultures across the globe, Max has been witness to stories spanning the gap of human experience.

Beginning his career with National Geographic in 2012 with a Young Explorers Grant, and then going on to work with National Geographic Magazine, Men's Journal, Outside Magazine and numerous other outdoor publications and brands, he forged a career for himself traversing the globe telling both his own stories as well as those of the people he encountered along the way.

In recent years, Max has directed, shot and produced numerous award-winning short documentary films that garnered screen time at festivals such as Cannes, Tribeca and Indi Short Docs, and most recently directed a feature documentary film “TORN” with National Geographic channel.

So happy that you and your family have found a way, through your filmmaking, to look bravely and deeply into the hardest moments of your lives and to come back with something truly beautiful, meaningful and healing. I'm anxiously awaiting the film.

I just saw "Torn". Thank you for your openness and from your family to talk about the death of your father and the different faces that this event caused trauma to you all. I was particularly impacted to see your mother's character. A remarkable women, no doubt. It is a beautiful story about pain and healing, about what makes us family and what makes us ourselves.

I remember a quiet little boy at Phortse climbing school in 2000 but I did not know the inside of his feelings. Sorry for your loss 🥲.
And good luck for TORN.

As a person who believes anything I achieve in the past has never been good enough, or tarnished. Coming from a broken home. No matter the victory . The guts this guy has is hard to believe . Being a fan of Alex I believe he is here and sees his family and is proud. When we all meet up in the hereafter, and relationships are perfect. Until then by taking care of ourselves, then we can take care of others that we value and love is the best we can do

Thank you for sharing, I'm so sorry for your loss. However I'm sure why this is a TED Talk. This is Brene Brown regurgitation.
