Something I wanna add for those that maybe experiencing what I did. Most gyms teach head movement as just slips and rolls like: 1, 2, slip, 3 or roll, 4, slip 3, 2. The thing is, no fighter does these staged combo scenarios in sparring or a fight and mostly lean back. Even Jeff is showing here a lot of his initial reactions is to move his head back, then slip/roll forward under a 2nd or 3rd strike. Your opponent has a large array of ways he can hit your head, so trying to figure out the incoming strike, then do the proper counter immediately in the most effective way possible will never work. All head movement starts with getting away from the strike, so when you start practicing head movement, start by just practicing leaning back away from the strike. Once you can do that, then add the slips and rolls. I had terrible head movement trying to read and do the perfect dodge for each attack, and I was getting hit dead in the face every time. Leaning back and learning distance made everything click for me, and I hope anyone reading this it will help you too.

Watching you dodge punches is literally one of my past times now.

Jeff, great point on the slipping is faster than bringing your hand back for blocking counters!!! I learned it the hard way when I was training holding zone 2 in Muay Thai. I couldn't retract my hands fast enough after throwing and I was eating a lot of punches to the face. Not to mention my arm was f**king tired after holding them up for an hour wearing 20oz gloves.

I feel like this would also be very useful in street fight combat and brawl situations. I always wanna prioritize using martial arts techniques for self defense than for sports combat. Great video man. very helpful. greetings from the Philippines.

I really enjoy the content of your channel. I've been training in the arts since 1972 "I'm an old dawg" Shotokan, Judo, Jujitsu, Taekwondo & Snake Kung Fu.

Still to this day I train daily & I leave my comfort zone willing to learn new skills & new training methods.

I learn much from your videos. Thanks for sharing with us. 🤘🙏

There are tons of nice things that could be said complimenting the diligence that you've obviously exercised to reach this point of skill...but honestly, ive probably already said it commenting on a previous video or somebody else has identified the same thing. So beyond helping those unaware of the level of skill that can be attained with concerted effort and proper approach to training, much more and I would enter a realm of nut-huggery that is essentially useless (though comfortingly familiar) and destract from what i think is a better observation for us, your adoring public.

For anybody who tries to pay attention to the shape and procession of thoughts and ideas toward a goal; take note of whats happening here. There are tons of talented, capable, hardworking human beings out there in the world that we can all appreciate the excellence of, its part of our nature in a sublime, essential way. Observing it is kind of automatic. Reflexive. Sometimes we are extraordinarily fortunate enough to be able to convey in any significant proportion the content of knowledge and/or perspective that might be shared with our fellows to be attempted in future efforts. Thats a mega cool thing that humans do that we all love and find it hard not to appreciate. rarely though, does the experience itself convey itself in any meaningful way into the future.

What jeff is doing here, is actually contributing to a greater collective the aims, means, and ways to chase down our native qualities and wrangle them into being. not just in specific techniques to focus in on and hone, but fundamental associations to first principles. As time moves along, the relative rarity of thoughtful individuals capable of producing such things becomes more and more apparent. In this capacity, however, he is not singularly unique. By nature of real paradox, his success parlays DIRECTLY to the capability and expression of those same things in yall, us, and you - whoever is reading this.

I think i've probably gone on a little long here. Just appreciate the things that are harder to see, and the efforts made towards the things you love.

i think these shrooms are kicking in.

thanks jeff.

Everytime I try to use head movement all my partners and coaches have scolded me for hands down. But sometimes it really pays off, would you still move like this in kickboxing Coach Jeff ?

Exactly what I have been looking for. This is my biggest weakness right now as a beginner, working myself into Semi Contact competitions. Just purchased the program and will report about my experience :)
