The question was without screens, but without watching things. iPad games are still screens. Legos are great and books. We also play dots and boxes, tic tac toe, and hangman

Books, puzzles, finger puppets, learn to tie their shoes....

Easy, never introduce a tablet of any kind to a child.
Hubby and I never got one because we can't afford it or need it.
Our kids play and read books just fine. Kids will have temper tandrums regardless so just give them attention which is what they need most.

Why do kids have to be kept 'busy'. Can they not just sit, or talk or read a book?

Couple tablespoons of nyquil or a benadryl 10 mins before boarding does the trick for me.
