OpenMediaVault (OMV) 6 (Alpha) Setup and First Look

Показать описание
In this video we'll look at installing and setting up OpenMediaVault 6.0. This is in alpha as of the time of recording.

OpenMediaVault is primarily designed to be used in home environments or small home offices, but is not limited to those scenarios. It is a simple and easy to use out-of-the-box solution that will allow everyone to install and administrate a Network Attached Storage without deeper knowledge.

I hope when v6 is stable you will do a video on how to upgrade an existing system. Thanks for the video.

Got to give DB Tech a compliment on this vid and his attention to "important" details. He and Techno Dad Life are the channels that helped me most with OMV 6. They also dive deeper into OMV setup and functionality that others just touch on. For most RAID is a can of worms that most people won't need (RAID is an enterprise environment thing that is best for many users and 24-7 uptime) along with PI stuff that is just faddish IMO. In my case network storage is just for me and a few PC's yet I do demand Open Source, custom high performance hardware and the ability to rise to any occasion if necessary which OMV will do in spades. For those that build PC's and servers from scratch, OMV is the bomb.

Terrific clip! I recently installed OMV6 and was having some challenges getting it to play well with me. Your clip cleared away whatever brain fog was preventing me from getting the vault sorted out. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!

also I wanted to say that accessing the SSH from windows 10 was a lot easier than I thought. had no issues installing portainer and docker. Thanks again.

I like that it looks less archaic and hopefully there will be a fairly easy upgrade path. Not sure how many of us want to go through setting up everything again. lol

Thanks for this video. Do you know if there would be an upgrade path from any of the older versions to OVM6? if not would one be able to backup config in ovm5 and restore configs after loading the new version? Thanks again for your videos. I find them very useful.

It looks very compelling. The new UI is very neat as well.

Thanks for the overview! If you were setting a new raspberry NAS today, would you go straight for the OMV6 or OMV5?

How do you upgrade from OMV 5 to OMV 6 ?

Is Omv a fork of TrueNAS/freenas? It looks very similar in the webui plus it uses zfs. Is zfs the only fs supported by omv or does it support any other fs’s? If it does support other fs what are the strengths vs weakness compared to zfs?

Possibilities on installing OMV 64 bit on Raspberry Pi4??
Couldn't find any tutorials anywhere!!
I was looking to run photoprism via docker which only have an arm64 image as of now.

Just a quick comment, I actually prefer UUID disks because if they are initialized randomly on another computer, or port, or the bios makes it a different sd#, it doesn't matter. It always works. Then, you move your boot drive to another computer, jam in all disks and fire it up and everything is perfect.

The close button at the bottom right is grayed out if the process is not yet finished. I noticed while watching your video.

after facing some issues with omv5, I just installed samba, portainer and did some setups to rasbian for my Raspberry pi Nas. But omv6 seems fancy and I will try it as soon as possible.

Hi, I just installed omv looking for the right setup for family use. But while I was watching the demo I noticed how dynamic the video you are using is to explain something or do a demo that is what I want, would you please tell me which software are you using to do this? Thank you for your reply.

Hello, I read in an article that it will be possible to migrate from version 5 to version 6 without having to start from 0. Can someone please confirm?
