I was told the saw teeth were added to serve as a root saw. The Glock E-Tool has a wood saw blade in the handle. The combination of the two allows a soldier to to have both a true wood saw and something to get through thick rough roots with his knife.

A point of intrest for those that do not know.
The blade is that length so that when being used as a bayonet it is long enough to do damage after going through web equipment and flak type jackets. I have both models, great multi-use knives and great value for money.

My archery side carry knife for decades has been my Dad's old Swiss M1916 saw back bayonet. Blade length was 19" but, this was broke at 7.7"and the tip re-shaped to the original. Heavy, awesome steel, and incredible craftsmanship. I suspect that a relative brought it home from WW1 or WW2. It is a great side companion while toting a recurve bow in bear/cougar country.

I own 3 of them. One I keep in the truck, one in my jeep and one in my side by side. Very good knife and can’t beat the price point.

Thanks for your review.
Glock knives are well known and often discussed in the european knife and outdoor communitys.I like them and
I own 3 modell 78 here in Germany.
The 78 is in use in a couple european armys, for example, like you already mentioned in Austria, also in use in the Norwegian army and the German GSG9 unit uses it - it is a proven design. No modell 81 are in army use because of the- pretty useless-saw on the back .
I was 16 when the 78 came on the market and it was at that time a pretty revolutionary thing.Kydex was not heard of yet. They are very good military knives and are darn tough .You can bent the pretty fine tip if you do stupid things but overall they are very strong. Despite the very short tang they do not break and i have not yet seen one that failed at the handle tang connection. They are cheap and reliable . You have not mentioned that they are - for the size knife- very lightweight and that is a bonus.
From the factory they come not very sharp but you can get them razor sharp with little effort. Edge holding is nothing to speak of... it is ok and good enough for its intended purpose. Pair it with a decent pocket knife for fine cutting and you are set.
Hardness is around 55 to 56 rc.
It is not 1095 hc as often said, the steel feels more like a 1075 or even a bit lower. Rust resistance is not good, you need to maintain it, especially once the cheap coating is gone.
All in all a very good military knife, a good stabber and i guess a very good fighter with decent capability for an all around knifelike tool. A good beater knife. I would recommend it.

The Glock Shovels need to be reviewed.

Could not be better timing on this video. Picked up the OD green Glock 81 back when I was a teenager and it has always been my favorite field/utility blade. It goes everywhere with me. I just recently purchased 2 more to have put up and I kid you not they were just delivered an hour ago. I see you up there Gaston.. 💪🏻

I keep a small fine diamond stone from DMT attached to the back of the sheath with ranger bands and a wad of vaseline cotton and a small ferro rod in the butt of the knife. Also 3 small ranger bands around the handle for a little extra grip.

Thanks for the review on this knife. It's well known in Europe of course, but not exactly on most lists here in the US.
I've had this model for almost eight years, and have literally attacked heavy brush in my woods where I live. My place easily can get quite overgrown if neglected.
The knife now is part of my vehicle carry kit in a small tote container in my trunk. It's earned my trust so to speak, in that I've put it through some harsh tasks. And failure, apparently, was not designed into this knife. It's tough. 👍

Mr. Thomas, what’s with the BSA National Camping School patch that you are wearing? Got several of those. 👍🏻

I never knew my Glock knife had a hollow handle! It is small, but some survival items could be inserted into it. Apparently, you can also slide it onto the end of a stick to make a spear. The hole would allow a nail to be placed through the wood to hold it in place. Learned something today!

I believe you can use it as a bayonet on the Steyr AUG series of combat rifles hence the bent cross guard and hollow butt

I've work with the two glocks w and w/o back saw ad i prefer the no back saw one. (i think is the Glock 78). The back saw only useful for notching, nor for sawing cause is too wide and slow. The knife and sheath are very good for outdoor use, very compact, light, and reliable

always like your videos. even if i am half city folk, you are the epitome of George W. Sears "Nessmuk". I have a glock 81. had it quite a while. it's ugly like a glock, but works like a glock. i am not a knife collector, i have a few as tools, have an old folding pen knife i found in an old trunk i collected from england many years ago of my fathers photos. in there was a letter from one of his girlfriends in the early 70s, in the envelope was a little gift wrapped 'thing', so being nosey, i opened it, inside was a little knife. little rusty too, so put some oil on it, cleaned it some. now it sits in a knife box. but like i say, i'm not a knife person, i have maybe 10-15 knifes of all kinds, mora's, every bag has a knife, truck has a knife. i treat them with respect, as a teen, cut my thumb bad messing with one, bled out a pint. i don't even like getting paper cuts. have i cut myself since - nope. i generally find a trusty firearm safer than paper. papercuts, ICK !

I’m not sure if anyone mentioned roomed this but you can pop out that cap on the bottom to reveal that tube opening for a bayonet just use a knife or screwdriver to get under it and pry little by little
